Lilly and her friend Avery were on a field trip with their class and their science teacher Mrs. Steinhoff, studying about how minerals and caves are formed in the Crystal Caves near their school. Lilly didn't mind the caves, but they always gave her the willies just by looking in the scary darkness of the cave, so she stayed close to Avery.
"You okay Lilly?" she asked.
Avery was a pretty girl who had shiny black hair, dark green eyes, and was skinny. She was also about as tall as Lilly, but just a few inches short.
"Yeah I'm fine; I just don't really like caves." quivered Lilly.
"Oh don't worry I'm not a big fan of caves either," Avery waved her cellphone around trying to get service, "for one reason you can't get any bars down here."
She tapped on her phone as if it would help, but it didn't. Avery tossed her hands up as if to give up on something and started to admire the caves. The Crystal Caves were beautiful and mysterious at the same time. Everywhere you looked there was a crystal of some sort of color. Any color you could imagine like red, blue, pink, green, yellow, or any other kind of color.
"Lilly, Avery, I hope you are paying attention." Mrs. Steinhoff said invading Lilly's thoughts. "If you were listening, would you kindly tell us how this cave was made?"
"I'm sorry Mrs. Steinhoff we weren't listening; we were actually looking around admiring the cave. As you know the cave can be very distracting, would you mind to please tell us again?" a voice said behind Lilly. Lilly turned around to see Kole, a boy with jet black hair, bright deep blue eyes, and a dashing smile. Kole's expression told Lilly and Avery that he had their backs. Lilly mouthed the words thank you to him and he nodded in return.
"Oh, if I must," said Mrs. Steinhoff dramatically with a twinkle in her eye, showing her smile. "A long time ago about billions of years back there was a comet that came out of nowhere. It was filled with crystals of strange powers, when it landed it made this cave as we now call it Crystal Cave."
The class clapped for Mrs. Steinhoff and she bowed. "All right class you may break up into groups to look at the caves, but don't go too far."
Lilly and Avery broke off into a group with Kole and his friend Drake, a dark brown haired, brown eyes guy who was taller than Lilly. "Thanks for helping us back there Kole." Avery said as they went away from the class.
"It was nothing, just helping some friends that's all." Kole dipped his head as if embarrassed. Lilly wasn't really paying attention, she just let her mind wonder and she found a dark corner that surprisingly was not lit from the crystals and it seemed to be calling to her. Her legs started to move as if some strange force was pulling her and she couldn't stop herself. Avery noticed that Lilly was walking away, so she followed her and then all of a sudden she vanished. Lilly found herself falling down a hole in the ground and then everything went dark.
