Miles watched Theodore as he tried to reach the box of cookies. After he and the chipmunks had made a cross country trip to Miami, he had grown closer to each of the three chipmunks in different ways.
"Why does Dave have to put the cookies where I can't reach it?"
Miles knew Theodore was talking to himself, but he responded anyway.
"Maybe he wants all of us to eat a cookie together, you know? Like a family?"
Theodore looked at the boy with a huge smile on his face.
Miles looked around for a second, feeling awkward as he turned back to Theodore. "What?"
Theodore slowly extended his pointer finger at Miles. "You said...family..."
Miles slowly nodded. "Yeah, I did...is there anything wrong with that?"
Theodore immidiately shook his head. "No! Of course not! It's just...you've never said family in front of us. You've only said it in front of Samantha."
Miles thought for a moment. "Yeah, I have...but, I've come to think of Dave, you and your brothers as family...so, why not say 'family'?"
Theodore smiles bigger as he scampered to where Miles was sitting.
"I think it's sweet how you think of us as family now, Miles."
The boy smiled as he gently patted Theodore's head, making Theodore giggle and clap.
A long silence was heard until Theodore spoke up. "So, uh...could you help me get the cookies?" He gestured to the open cabinet.
Miles laughed and followed Theodore to the kitchen. "Sure."
