The house had that night time silence to it, silence that could only be acquired after all of the residents in the house had long gone to sleep; but upstairs in the master bedroom at the end of the hallway, husband and wife were reacquainting themselves with each other in the most intimate way possible, their moans intertwining with the silence of the house and the slight crackling of the candles that were expertly placed around the room, as they tangled themselves around each other and let their love take care of the rest.
"I love you, so much," Demi breathed out after reaching her zenith for at least the fifth time that night. Wilmer swept her matted hair off of her forehead and finally rolled after her, bringing the covers over their bodies and wrapping his arms around his wife's naked body, pulling her as close as her body would allow.
"I missed this a lot...and I love you too," Demi had been the one that had decided to take things slow when it came to getting their relationship back on track. It took her two months to finally have sex with him again but when they finally did, she ended up getting pregnant and even if she knew it was safe to have sex while being pregnant, she still was extra careful with that as well, because she was carrying two and her pregnancy was more high risk than it had been before.
"Are they sleeping?" he lowered his head, pressing it against her swollen stomach and placing a tender kiss on her belly button, moving his hands all around her stomach, looking for where the babies had their heads and their feet and their little hands.
"The one right here is," Demi's hand trailed around to the left side of her stomach where one of their babies was completely still, even though there wasn't much room for them to move around in.
She had been scared when she found out that she was pregnant and with twins. What if her career took first place and she ended up neglecting them too? What if Wilmer wasn't gonna give her a second try if that did happen? But after constant reassurance for Wilmer, she had faith in herself that it wouldn't; and he had promised that if she even began to neglect them just a little bit, he would get her on track again; because wasn't that what a relationship was supposed to be about in the first place? Two people sharing their love for each other while helping each other be the best that they could be as well.
"Thank you for giving them to me," Wilmer kissed the smooth skin of her stomach again as her free hand combed through his short hair.
"Thank you for giving me a second chance," she replied. If he had just simply ignored her apologies and went home that day without even considering how truly sorry she was, she wouldn't be pregnant again. She wouldn't have her rings back on her finger either.
They simultaneously heard the pitter patter of little feet on wood flooring and Demi reached over onto the ground, grabbing Wilmer's shirt that she had yanked off of him as Wilmer slipped on his boxers and his wife beater. The door to their room swung open and Ariel ran in, hopping onto the bed with her Minnie doll in her arms and climbing in between her parents with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"What's wrong, sweet pea?" Wilmer turned on the gas fireplace, reigniting their fire before he climbed back into the bed with Ariel and Demi.
"There's monsters in my room again. But they're in the bathroom this time," Ariel cried into Demi's stomach as Demi stroked her thick hair and kissed the top of her head.
"Are you and daddy gonna fight them away together for me?" Ariel questioned, looking up at her parents. Demi simply smiled and tucked her under the covers as Wilmer turned the light off and rested his head against his pillow.
"Don't we always?" Wilmer replied with a smile. And maybe for a short period of time, they hadn't fought the monsters away together, and their monsters had won. And maybe their family had experienced a minor fall. All that mattered now was that they were ready to fight their monsters away, as a family, and this time they were gonna win.
