a/n:

hey

from its_buzzcut_season:

so @handwrittenswift and I have read all your comments and we love all of you for supporting this story (seriously). but we noticed some of you feel like this isn't really a proper haylor fanfiction and after talking about it, we agreed that it isn't really. we agree there hasn't been much Harry-Taylor romantic interaction, but it's for a reason. It's a fairly long story with a lot of detail to help you really understand their circumstances, and therefore, all we require from you is your patience.

the good news is that we've listened to what some of you have had to say, and we promise to do our best not to disappoint you.

sorry for the long a/n, but I hope it placates some of you.

again, thanks for all the love and support. We both love you

That next morning, Camille was awake before I was.

As I opened my eyes, she was sitting up already, against the headboard, staring at something in the middle distance, her finger twirling a piece of hair absent-mindedly.

The light from the open curtain streamed in and gave her hair a soft blonde glow. Another thing I noticed in the low light were the dark circles under her eyes. Bluish-purple half moon shapes sat right beneath her eyelids, making her look way older than she was. She sighed and leaned back, putting her head into her hands.

For a moment, I thought she might be crying, but she regained her composure, checking her phone for the time and sighing. I watched as she pulled out the hair tie that held her messy bun together and as her hair fell like spun silk all over her shoulders.

"Hey," I said, as she was about to go take a shower as per her usual routine.

She looked at me and gave me a small smile. I sat up and pressed my thumbs to the tops of her cheekbones; right where the bags were.

"Rough night," she said, pushing my hands off and climbing out of bed. A second later, I heard the shower turn on.

I sat there, guilty. Firstly, with the relief that had come late last night, I'd been able to have my first good night's sleep since the night I almost ruined everything. Second, I realised that she had lost sleep over my stupid mistake – that Camille wasn't a ray of sunshine this morning – and that I had probably broken her spirit and her heart yesterday, no matter how much she tried to make it seem like I hadn't.

I was still in the same position, eyebrows together, leaning back against the headboard when she emerged ten minutes later drying her hair with a towel.

"I've done a bit more thinking," she said suddenly with her back towards me as she looked through the dresses that were hung up on her side of the closet.

I gulped.

Maybe she realised it wasn't worth it to stay with me – that I was a terrible person who could love two different people at the same time. I was the type of guy who tried desperately to move on from someone who broke his heart years ago and still gave in and slept with them, even though I had a loving girlfriend at home.

"Yeah?"

She spun around, looking me dead in the eye.

"What happened after, um – after you two... I mean I know I was the one who said it didn't really matter at this point, but it's been bugging me and—"
