Chapter Four: Ariya
Molly and I sat on the couch finishing the movie Mulan. I grabbed a handful of popcorn, Molly giving me a glare since there was little popcorn left.
"What? This stuff is delicious!" I defended.
Molly smiled, "That's what happens when you're cooped up in a hospital all the time, they put you on fat food diets."
"I couldn't even eat a lollipop!" I whined, remembering when I walked into the hospital with a lollipop and from then on I was banned to touch any foods with fat calories.
Molly laughed, throwing her head back and closing her eyes. She looked so much like mom with her blond hair, those soft green eyes and her rosy cheeks.
"I want to fall in love with my commanding officer..." I said dreamily as Mulan asked Shang to stay for dinner.
"Hey, you never know, you might find love another way that's better." Molly mumbled as she ate some more popcorn.
Soon the credits began to roll up and I looked over at Molly.
"Next!" She groaned before standing up.
As she took a step forward she shrieked and jumped back, her glass of water falling to the floor. The water spread all over the floor, Molly looking at me with a smile.
"So, can you pull the water back?" She asked me and it was then I regretted telling her everything, how I felt around animals and how I felt like I was in control of the water. But, at the same time I was happy because I didn't have to practice in secret now.
I put my hand forward, trying to concentrate on having the water fill back up the glass cup. I squinted my eyes as I stared harder at the water, moving my hand slowly. After a minute I dropped my hand, the water rippling over as I gave up.
"Come on! You almost had it." Molly told me with a smile of encouragement.
"I can't..." I muttered, hugging my knees back to my chest.
"Come on!" Molly pulled me up to my feet, "Don't give up."
I stared at the water, not really sure what to do. Molly watched me as I put out my hand again. This time I closed my eyes and concentrated hard, I focused on making the water move back into the cup. I felt a calm cool feeling run through me and my stomach knotted before I heard Molly jumping up and down.
I opened my eyes to peek and see if the water was moving, and it was. I moved my hand slowly as the water formed into a sphere and followed the movements of my hand. I made it come closer then go far away, then I rushed it back into the cup. I jumped up and down with Molly, the both of us laughing, but I still felt the knot in my stomach get tighter. I stopped jumping, watching as Molly jumped and danced around, my hearing seeming to fade.
As if the glass cup was plugged into a speaker, I heard a piercing crack. Spinning quickly to look at the cup, I noticed the water had froze over, turning to ice, then freezing the glass, but the frozen water wanted to expand further so the glass broke. The shattering of the cup sounded so loud that I jumped back, not being able to bare the noise. Molly screamed as the lights of the house flickered on and then they shut off, the bulb above us popped, little flakes of fire floating to the ground.
An orange flake floated into the palm of my hand. I yelled in pain as I watched it burn into my palm, then my hand was on fire. Molly screamed again before touching my other hand, as if she was going to pull me to my feet, but I felt an electric current run through me and we both screamed. I heard mom yell out our names, her footsteps sounding from above as she ran out her room. I waved my hand, trying to put out the fire but the fire spread and I began to cry as the fire burned through my skin.
