the police arrived after a neighbor found the front door wide open, and carissa on the kitchen floor, and the kitchen a mess.

the table had been turned over. the food and red wine had splattered all over the kitchen. madison had been found in the bathroom. she had been incoherent and taken to the psychiatric ward. the authorities doubted if she would ever regain her mind, much less give any clues about the murderer and her assumed tormentor.

sonya was never found. a few blamed madison for killing her and her sister, before completely losing it--her hands had been covered in dried blood. but most people don't believe that. madison had had a loving relationship of many years with the family, and it was unlikely for her to even harm them.

they finally decided that she had also been a victim. someone else must have been there. the only clue and unexplainable detail was that in the mess, the only thing left untouched in the middle of the kitchen was

an empty wine glass.
