Have you heard the story of Cinderella? Of course you have, but no she did not talk to little mice, or birds, and she did not ride in a pumpkin. Then again the story was wrong all together. Let me tell you about ONE of the "evil" twin sisters, Iris. Let's see, where should we start the story? A long time ago in a land far far away..... Nope. Once upon a time, ah that's a lot better, let's go with that one.
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who went by the name of Iris. She played in the meadows, flowers spread everywhere. You could hear her singing as she pretended to dance with her prince. Her dark blue eyes were closed, the wind blowing her auburn hair. She continued to hum, her loving mother's voice calling for Iris and her twin sister Elizabeth.
Iris wished to be more like Elizabeth, Elizabeth had beautiful fair skin and long lashes that would flutter when she beat her dark brown eyes. Elizabeth's brown hair shined and curled, draping on her shoulders. Iris would look in the mirror everyday, picking herself apart: freckles, big eyes, weird ears, flat hair, thin lips. She doesn't look like either of her parents. She hates it.
"Elizabeth, Iris! Your father calls for you!" The girls run as fast as they can, their father having been ill. They race to their parents room, their mother closely behind. They slowly opened to door to their parents room, Elizabeth's voice calling to their father.
"Father, we are here." she slowly walked to the bed, his father's breathing heavy and tired. Elizabeth's small hand slide into her fathers, he turned his head toward Iris and her sister. But he spoke only to his favorite little girl.
"Elizabeth dear," His voice was deep and loving, but he sounded tired, as if he would fall asleep. "Take care of your mother. Don't forget to be a good girl like I know you are. I feel that I will soon leave. So I want to give you this." His breath hitched and he stiffened. He slowly relaxed and held out a necklace. Not once had he looked at Iris, her eyes were wide and scared, but she dared not say anything to upset her ill father. Elizabeth eagerly took the shining necklace from her father's shaking, pale hand. His dark brown hair stuck to his skin because of his sweat, and his feverish blue eyes looked from Elizabeth to her mother. "I love you." He said, finally fixing his gaze on Iris. His eyes didn't close and his body wouldn't move. His heart would beat no more. The girl's mother wept, hugging herself and screaming for her husband. Elizabeth stared down at her necklace, and Iris stared back into her dead fathers eyes. Elizabeth turned to look at Iris, when Iris looked back at her twin sister she paled. Elizabeth did not weep nor shudder. Instead she wore a sweet smile, as if she were satisfied.
The death of the twin's father had broken the family. The girl's mother had wept so many tears, after a while she soon felt nothing.
