"She's what?!" I managed to keep the black coffee from spewing out onto Janine Hathaway. Struggling to maintain my stoic composure, I slowly dabbed off my surprise with a cafe napkin. Janine stopped mid-sentence as she realized she had just revealed our daughter had a boyfriend. One that was at least 7 years older. Usually secrets were welcome, however this one required special attention. Special fatherly attention.

Vasilisa Sabina Rhea Dragomir's Coronation

I saw my beautiful daughter Rose Hathaway and the soon to be queen, Vasilisa Dragomir, as they made their way into the grand hall. Rose, dressed in her Guardian attire of black and white, caught sight of Janine and I. Her eyes held a wicked glint in them. Ah, it was about time she confronted us.

"Well, well, well", She said. "If it isn't the people responsible for unleashing Rose Hathaway on the world. You've got a lot to answer for." I offered her a fatherly smile as Janine showered Rose with her motherly concern. Rose only brushed off the concern with one of her terrible jokes. I choked up a little because I knew she was safe and the tasks she had undertaken make me so proud... Especially the illegal ones. Like father, like daughter.

Janine and Rose continued speaking about other matters of Court. But I was already scoping the area for my victim. Dimitri Belikov.
From a distance, I spotted him. Dressed in standard Guardian attire, he stood cautiously behind Christian Ozera and was completely unaware of his forthcoming interrogation session with me.

I turned to Rose and Janine, and with an easy smile, I announced, " Ladies, this is a family gathering after all. A celebration. And look: here's our newest member." Belikov stood near my daughter but was careful not to touch her. I could tell he is nervous. Good.

"Mr. Mazur", he said formally, nodding a greeting to both Janine and I. "Guardian Hathaway." The kid was trying to impress me. Hm...

I made a show of becoming the "father figure". After all, the time wasted on watching 16 Handles would have been downright wasteful. "Ah, Belikov,' I said, shaking Dimitri's hand.

"I'd been hoping we'd run into each other. I'd really like to get to know you better. Maybe we can set aside some time to talk, learn more about life, love, et cetera. Do you like to hunt? You seem like a hunting man. That's what we should do sometime. I know a great spot in the woods. Far, far away. We could make a day of it. I've certainly got a lot of questions I'd like to ask you. A lot of things I'd like to tell you too."

The nervous caged animal look entered his eyes. When Rose tried to condone my well prepared recommendation, Janine jumped in. Game, set, match. Belikov toughened up and the glint in his eye accepted my plan of interrogation.

Let the games begin.
