Pov Abe
I woke up the next morning with a sly smile. Getting dressed in a casual dress shirt and my favorite yellow, cashmere scarf, I strolled downstairs. Today was a day of interrogation: more secrets. Fun.
Dimitri stood no chance against me. Rose, Janine, and I were finally a family together. I was never truly into the family life. Moroi leave Guardians for a reason. But seeing Rose in action touched me in unexplainable ways. It is a little hard to imagine not convincing all those people to participate in order to save Rose. It was about time the old Zmey settle down. And a poor lover boy was not going to butt his head in my world. Ever since discovering that my daughter was a strong, tough, law-defying guardian, I have been more and more determined to keep her safe. Even if it means a little friendly conversation.
"What are you smiling about Abe?" I didn't even hear Rose walk in.
"Just thinking about the fun day your " *cough* "boyfriend and I are going to have today, little girl."
"Don't hurt him too much okay, old man?"
"No promises." We were going hiking the woods far, far away from my innocent daughter. Dimitri didn't know yet. I asked Nikoli to fetch the car from the back. Dimitri was in for a surprise.
I was just about to head out the door when I heard Rose talking on the phone. To... Dimitri?! Bye Comrade. You have to write me okay? Yes, I'll miss you! It's going to be 2 weeks and without a phone? How could you do this to me? At least you don't have to meet my dad yet. Quickly realizing the conversation was coming to an end, I casually leaned against the stair case whipping out my I wouldn't hurt a fly look.
"Everything okay Rose?"
"Looks like you won't be talking to Dimitri anytime soon, Old man. He is going to Russia for a few days."
"Oh, looks like I'll have to see him as soon as he gets back then." Curse my good mood in the morning. Karma was coming back to bite me again. Reluctantly, I offered my Rose a smile and left. This was going to be trickier than I thought.
----
Standing in the courtyard, I carefully pondered my next move. Should I wait the 2 weeks to talk to him, or find him in Russia. Obviously nothing could stop me from reaching Dimitri, but was it really worth the extra jet fuel to go find him? On the other hand, if I secretly leave, Rose would have less suspicion I was actually going to interrogate him. Right?
I called for Nikoli again. This wasn't my first interrogation, and I was determined to get this one right. "Nikoli, fuel up the jet. We have a boyfriend to interrogate."
"Is he yours, Sir?" I could feel his smirk even over the phone.
"Nikoli, I do not suggest you be smart with me. You may be a friend but just remember the next time I hand you your check."
"Yes, sir." And he hung up. I could still hear his echoing laughter when even when the line died.

Here is a morsel of the adventure to come. Off to Russia.
