Chapter 3

The day was just beginning for Vanessa when she was met by Caleb's face as she opened her room. His face was beaming; almost as if he was expecting Vanessa's appearance. He held a Starbuck's cup which looked hot as steam leaped from the small hole on the lid.
Vanessa immediately shut the door on Caleb mostly from shock. Vanessa heard a small anxious giggle behind her doors and rolled her eyes. She opened the door again almost a second later to find Caleb in the same position as before but with his left hand which was empty, scratching the back of his head like he realised the shock and inconvenience he had given to Vanessa.
"I'm sorry, I was about to knock but you opened the door and I had no idea what to do. I'm really sorry" He exclaimed, his mouth hardly stopping to take a breath from his nervous explanation.
Vanessa nodded to show her acknowledgement and stepped out of her room. She turned to lock her room and then made her way outside. She didn't bother talking to Caleb who was following and talking to her. She had already learnt how to block the unnecessary.
"At least take this coffee!" He shouted, aware the Vanessa was amazing at ignoring him. She stopped then, turned and looked at the cup he held. She took a step closer to him and grabbed it.
"Thanks." She mumbled and continued at her track.
"No problem, hope we're even now!" He beamed before completely halting from following Vanessa.

Since the day before, Jace could not stop thinking about his careless actions and the feelings which he could not control. It was a first for him and as soon as he was away from the café, he began to analyse the situation which happened. He uncovered each event and aimlessly concluded with the answer that it was his fault but he was not to blame for all the mistakes. He also blamed the girl; Vanessa.
He hurried out of his dorm room to find the isolated place as always, his family had to buy the whole place as one of the many conditions he had set for him to study. As his family knew there was no other way for him to go to school, they blindly accepted all the conditions he set.
He took a small milk carton out of the fridge; one of the dozen he had aligned in the fridge, the only content in his large fridge. He started to drink the carton as he headed out.
Jace's mind was still churned by tactics and strategies he wishes to perform when he meets Vanessa again; he was determined to look much cooler. So cool that she will forget the foolishness he displayed when they first met. He laughed like a madman on his own as walked, making the invisible people near him move further away. He planned to go to the café again today and make a better resolve than yesterday.

"Who does she think she is?" Jessica squealed as she and her two other girlfriends who looked almost identical to her.
"I know right, she's only a scholar, she doesn't even pay half of what we do." A girl, known by Becca squirmed. She picked up her phone as she said so and typed away with her long nails. The phone's screen seemed in pain from the multiple scrapes from her nails.
"She doesn't?" Taylor asked, a sudden change in her tone from the night before. It was disguised by a change in pitch as she said the last syllable.
"Yeah, I heard she has a scholarship meaning she literally doesn't have to pay for any expenses. Apparently it's cause she's really smart." Becca continued without looking away from her phone. Becca was the ultimate model of a female multitasker.
"So is she poor?" Jessica curiously asked, a spark which enlightened her.
"Well, I guess so." Becca said.

Vanessa walked in her first lesson of the day; Biology. It was her favourite subject and no other subject has ever lived up to the interest she had for it. She sat on her seat and took out all of her necessary equipment as she waited for the arrival of her teacher.
She sat in silence until the teacher walked in. Almost catching her off-guard, she was taken aback by the following person who entered the room tailing after Mrs Beid. She looked at the unfamiliar young man with curiosity; he was very good-looking. His face was refreshing for Vanessa; the fact that most of the people she had seen before had been in her mind because she could never forget anything she encounters made it difficult for her to be interested in things. But this time, this unfamiliar face intrigued her.
The young man wore spectacles, his face edged by the right bones, his jaws were spectacular; sharp enough to cut skin deeply. His cheekbones were also high, his eyes were small but they were a light shade of grey.
"My name's Alexander but please, call me Alex."
