When Maddie entered the boarding area, the first thought that went through her mind was wondering if it was too late to go back. She hadn't flown; what if this was the one time a plane crashed? Or what if Numbers left her there? Maybe it was all some kind of cruel joke to get her from home and...
No. Numbers wasn't that kind of guy.
They made the final call for boarding, and Maddie clutched onto her bag. If she wanted to bolt, now was her chance. While a large part of her was pushing her to make her way to the exit; there was another part of her pushing her towards the plane. For years now she had wondered what Numbers was all about and who he was, and now she had a chance, and she was gonna pass it up?
Nope.
She couldn't.
Maddie hoisted her bag onto her shoulder, took a deep breath, and made her way onto the plane.
