Chapter 7 - The Date
As April got ready for her second day of college she started to wonder if it could get any better than the previous day. Tonight was her date with Jake, so yes it did get better.
As she walked though the school gates she hurried to homeroom before being too late she was greeted by Jake, who also was running.
“April,” he greeted while giving her a hug. “I need to speak to you about tonight.”
“Yes.” How could she forget about tonight. It kept her a Lottie up trying to pick outfits for every kind of occasion.
“I will pick you up at five, since it’s a school night. Just wear something comfortable.”
“Where are we going?”
“Its a surprise.”
“But I hate surprises,” she whined while putting on her puppy dog face. She never understood the point of surprises. The person being surprised was going to find out eventually, so why not put them out of their misery and and tell them beforehand.
“If you thought that would get me to spill, then you were wrong. My lips are sealed and the key has been thrown away into the river,” he responded while pretending to zip his lips an throw the keys away.
“Is that a hint for where we are going?” She asked, hopeful for the answer.
“Nope, not a hint, simply a metaphor.”
Both were that late to homeroom that they didn't even bother going. They just signed in at the office and proceeded to their first class. It was a long day. Time could not have gone faster.
Her eyes were blindfolded. Jake still refused to give her any clue as to what they were doing. Over the past two days (and few years) April knew her brother and half expected him to show up along with the other boys to ruin the night somehow, not even on purpose. But they would be there.
“Where are we going? And why can’t you just tell me?” April was becoming impatient. She lost count as to how many times she had been asking those exact questions over the course of the day. She was unsure as to whether her outfit was suitable. A pair of jeans, shirt, woollen jumper and combat boots seemed appropriate to Jake but he was not a female and therefore could not make that decision.
“You will see in just a sec.” April took the final steps before coming to a halt.
“You may remove the blindfold ma lady.”
April did as followed in the most ungraceful way a girl could. He hair was completely messed up now ruining the hours worth of curls Lottie made. Before her was a candle lit picnic set out under a massive oak tree.
“You didn't have to go to all of this trouble,” she gushed in awe.
“Of course I did. Had to make a pretty good first date impression.”
Back at the house the lads were sitting in the house with the girls playing cards. Niall was unable to get April out of his head somehow, no matter how hard he tried.
“You alright mate?” Zayn questioned the boy trying to gain his attention.
“What was happening?”
“It was your turn to pick up or put down.”
"Sorry I wasn't on this planet. I think I'm going to get some fresh air." Niall walked out to the back of the house and sat on the deck at the top of the stairs. The moon was shining bright, possibly a full moon. The soft sound that the crickets were making around the backyard could be heard, that’s how quiet it was. Their sound was soothing, it helped him think properly.
"Hey are you alright mate?" He recognised the voice without needing to see a face; it was Liam.
"I'm fine. I think." Niall shrugged his shoulders.
"You don’t look like it."
"You're right." The poor boy confessed. There was no way he could hide this; not from his best friend. He had to, no he needed to tell one person. "I fancy April." He sighed. The truth was finally out.
"April? Louis' sister?"
"Yes April. I can't help it okay. The way her eyes light up when she smiles and her cute laugh when someone makes a lame joke. What's not to like?"
"I wish I could help you mate, but don't you think that you should try to get over it. Yes, easier said than done. But she is currently on a date which means she is hands-off."
"I know but I have no idea what to do," He was getting annoyed as put my head in hands. Love was frustrating and unpredictable hence why he never dated anyone while in One Direction. Love was frustrating and required the time that he couldn't provide.
