Playing with Fire - A Poem

Once upon a time,

A girl played with fire.

She took a peek,

But it was too much for her to handle.

She was young

Innocent

But peers pushed her to gaze into the flame.

It was mesmerizing,

Addicting.

And soon she couldn't look away.

She knew it was wrong,

But the burning feeling the fire gave

Was a painful bliss

Soon, she crashed

And the flame was taken away.

She blinked, looked around

And realized what she had become.

She was no longer innocent,

No longer young or free.

She was ruined,

Tarnished,

Scorched by the flame.

All seemed lost,

But she found hope in the everlasting

And when someone else plays with the flame

She must turn away

Because innocence cannot be gained

But it is easily lost.
