The Cold Song

The world grows colder with every passing note.

The music builds, falls, rises, fades,

And my emotions react in ways I have not felt in months.

Why does the minor key evoke such a response?

Why do I love the feeling of the cold wind drifting me to far off places?

My joy pushes away the sadness the song brings,

Yet for some reason, tonight I welcome it.

I sway, I tense, I relax with the rise and fall of the tune

And I'm instantly carried away by a piece that has yearned to be sung

After all those months of blissful silence.

The song finishes, and I am left frozen in silence

There is no tune to sweep me off into another land

No world to explore beyond the notes

For a minor song brings sadness and tears,

And it waits for its next victim to carry away to the cold unknown
