It was October before i talked to her again. The day of Halloween, actually.
I was headed to the record store for another album, this time recommended by Joe.
I made my way down the sidewalk, putting my hands in my pockets to protect them from the wind.
It was Chicago, after all. It hadn't exactly gotten freezing cold out yet but it was very, very windy, as the name windy city implies.
I watched the warm colored leaves drift to the ground, and grinned a bit as i kicked a pile into the air.
Eventually, i was opening the doors to the record store.
Small spooky decorations had been placed in random places, and i took a minute to admire them before searching for the album.
Once i found it - and one more that i picked up just for the heck of it - i made my way to the register, kind of hoping Liz would be there.
Sure enough, i seen her behind the counter, trying to re-hang a streamer. I cleared my throat, and she jumped a little before turning to look at me.
"Sorry, i didn't mean to scare you! Do you, uh, need some help?" I asked, and she smiled, then shook her head.
"Nope. I got it."
She tried once more, with the help of a stool, to reach the ceiling and tape up the streamer, and she finally succeeded.
She let out a loud ha! Before jumping off the stool and making her way to the register.
"See? Told you i'd get it. Two albums?"
I handed them to her and she read the covers, then smiled.
"You like Coldplay?"
I nodded. That had been the one i picked up along with Joe's recommendation.
She smiled again, and then rang me up.
"Hey." I said, not really sure why i did that, but i did.
She looked over at me, waiting.
"I was just wondering.. Me and my friends are gonna go see a horror film tonight, and i was gonna ask if you wanted to come."
I shifted my feet and bit my lip, feeling very nervous.
I was horrible at trying to make friends, but i figured i had nothing to loose.
She seemed to think about it for a moment, and then looked back at me.
After a few more seconds of silence, she answered.
"Sounds fun. I'm in."
I then smiled back, feeling relieved.
"What time?" She asked, and i told her the movie started at 8:15.
"Alright, see you there, Trick!"
I cocked an eyebrow at her.
"What?" She asked.
"Patrick? Trick? Get it?"
I shook my head, but smiled.
"Yea, i get it, i get it."
I started to walk away until i heard say my name again.
"You left your albums."
"Oh." I said, feeling my face flush in embarrassment. I jogged back over and grabbed the albums.
"Sorry." I laughed awkwardly, and she grinned.
I walked away once again, and headed home to get ready for the movie. Not that i had to do much, i might just take a nap, but its whatever.
