'Told me what? What do I need to know?' Meredith asked.

'Um.... Well its like this.' replied Tilumai 'I don't know exactly how to put this kindly......' She trailed off.

Amua finished her off. 'You can't leave our village now that you have seen us. Y-you have to become one of us.' His eyes had lost their sparkle and there was no trace of his cheerful grin.

'NO! I have to go back! Mel needs me!' Meredith protested,  'I- I need her.' She sobbed 'You don't know what you are getting yourself into.' She curled herself up into a tight ball. Melanie if you can hear me, come quickly!

The grass door was flung to the side. A fully armoured man walked into the healers hut. 'The chief wishes to interrogate the girl.'

Tilumai looked concerned. 'Can you stand now Meredith?'

Meredith sniffed and wiped her eyes. Her face was tear stained and red. 'I - I think so.' She used her arms to push herself off her bed. When she stood up, her head swam and she almost fell back down again. She felt Amua's strong arm steadying her and together they walked outside the hut to the chief.
