I slammed the door behind me as I emerged into my house. My mom's car appeared in the driveway behind me. Usually, when my mother first got home, it was quiet. She would be cooking dinner while I attempted in completing my homework before dinner. Today, it sounded as if she was with another human being.
I threw by bag to the ground and plopped my tiny body onto the couch, turning the television on afterwards.
When the screen door opened, and two people stepped into the room, I slowly turned my head. When I realized that it was her boyfriend, I jumped up.
My mom's boyfriend was like a dad to me. He was always willing to do my work for me and get me things even though I asked not of it. He was always there to speak to me when I wanted it and he was always helping me with homework.
I ran up to him and hugged him."Hey Mike!"
He took a step back surprised by my sudden hug and took time to adjust. Then, he finally gave me the hug I wanted.
"Hiya sweet pea!" He said while petting my hair. "How are you?"
I did this weird hop thing and then put my hands to my side and spoke. "Life's been good! How about you?"
He let in a breath and sighed. "Well, that's why I'm here instead of at my apartment today," he said.
I began to study the way his forehead started to sweat causing it to shine. "Wh-," my mom cut me off by pushing me back onto the couch.
"Well.....ah," she paused as if she was re-thinking what she was going to tell me.
She took a look at Mike who nodded his head.
"I'm pregnant!" She hollered.
My eyes lit up and my heart pumped quicker than ever.
"Really! Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Well," she began proudly. "We will know that tomorrow."
She and Mike walked out of the kitchen and began to cook dinner. They were so cute. The both of them were fantastic.
I never imagined I'd have a younger sibling again. Not after Lily died that is. It had been a dream for years.
