Mark - Gay
Sarah and I are grocery shopping. My sister wants to be a chef and Thanksgiving is near so we decided to buy some good and expensive stuff. Why expensive? Because, I'll repeat, my sister wants to be a chef - and she does not want to have a cheap dinner.
Her blonde hair is pulled into a ponytail. She looks older than usually.
I hear her clear her throat. "So, Markolin, how are you with the whole 'I'm a proud gay' thing?" I roll my eyes.
"First, don't call me Markolin, you know I hate the nickname. Second, I'm not a proud gay," I tell her.
She gasps. "You should embrace your situation, you know? I'm proud of being hetero, you should be proud of being homo," she tells me.
It would be easier if being homofobics didn't exist. It would be easier if my own dad didn't hate the LGBT community. And it sure would be hella easier if The Ugly Ones wasn't a thing. But life's not easy, life is hard and that's why I'm gay. End of story.
"You said it, Sarah. You are hetero, I'm homo. Those are two different -very different, actually- things. So stop it," I snap. She frowns and sticks her tongue out.
"Chill, or else I'll think you're on your period," she says, but sighs tiredly. "Look, Mark, I know it's hard, I can sympathize and empathize, but the thing is that you were born this way. You can't change the fact that you like boys. Life is too short to feel bad for yourself forever. It's now or never. This is the time to accept who you are. Or else, you might die pretending to be something you are not."
I stare at my sister. She really does not understand this. Why can she not see I do not have the support I need? I don't want to go through the hell I'll have to go through if I come out. Maybe later, but now? I don't think so.
"Sarah, just forget about it, I-"
"Shut up, Mark. I won't forget about it, my little brother is suffering, so don't ever tell me to get over it." She closes her eyes and takes a deep breath. "I'm going to look for salt, see you later."
She turns around and walks away from me.
