<=== notesss: yes, my character is also using the name annabelle, which I have used in another story of mine. no they are not the same. my apologies for that but yeah, it happens whatever. I know it's kind of stupid this whole. IDK. one shot Doctor Who thing (Which reminds me, I am aware there is an 11th Doctor, but this IS the 10th Doctor as he is my favorite [sorrynotsorry]) so... just... enjoy this ===>
The rain was coming down heavy that night. It was much like the universe was crying. Like this world was overwhelmed with sadness. It was painful.
As he walked he passed stores, balconies, and train stations, only the outside was lit up like stars in the darkness. Light bulbs were burning out just to be a beacon in the bad weather. He fumbled around his jacket pocket, cold wet fingers reaching in to take out a more than extraordinary screwdriver. He tossed and caught his trusty sonic and went on messing around with it.
The lightweight machinery whirred with excitement and simultaneously the tip lit up blue. He snickered a bit at all the memories it held, all the things he'd done with it. All the people he had passed it over to, just to get a job done.
But beneath the layer of mechanic sound came the quiet weeping of a small, (dyed) red-haired girl. At first the man walked passed with an unconcerned look on his face, but by the next store front he had stopped and retraced his steps searching for the origin of the sound.
When he spotted her, his face warped into worry and sadness.
"Hello." He spoke in a thick accent that was not just comforting but safe.
She looked up wiping tears from her fragile eyes. She seemed embarrassed so she looked away. He bent down and put a hand on her wrist. Somehow she was dry; bone dry. But he didn't think twice, it was nothing new to meet aliens while waltzing down the street.
"What's your name," his voice came again, kinder, wiser.
She removed her arms from in front of her face. She didn't look up.
"My... My name?" She paused, her whole body shaken and trembling. "It's... It's Annabelle..." She paused again and glanced up into the mans eyes. "And... Who-who might you be..?"
He smiled softly.
"You can call me the Doctor."
He watched as she contemplated asking the classic question "doctor who?" and then chose against it as another wave of emotion burst through. She tried to stifle the sound of crying, but it seemed almost impossible as she began to tremmor with tears, streaming down her face and her shirt. He leaned down so he was face to face with the girl, although she didn't look at him.
"Hey hey shh, why don't you tell me what's wrong?"
He lifted a finger to her cheek brushing away a tear. She swallowed down and shook her head. He pursed his lips. There was silence for a few minutes as she tried to calm herself down. She breathed slowly.
"In your own time, Annabelle."
As she was finally settled enough, she made eye contact. She proceeded to recite a story about how she had fallen in love with her best friend. She had the chance to tell him, and so she did. After he left, he had never spoken to her again. She was all alone in the world. No family. No friends. She was an outsider, the only one on her entire planet.
She looked away. He just kept staring, astonished. After a few moments of silent anguish, he placed a hand under her chin. She looked up biting her lip and then shook herself out of a dazed state. To her, the Doctor's eyes compared to her friends and she didn't know how to not be so taken back by it. There were galaxies hiding in them. You just had to look in the right spot...
"I guess this won't do much good then," he said tapping his lips with the screwdriver and then slipping it back into his pocket.
She smiled and let out a shifty laugh.
"Now, maybe I can't repair all of this damage, all the emotions reflected into your heart, but maybe. Just... Maybe, if you'll let me, if you would like, I could take you away, show you something beautiful." He said with a hopeful pair of eyes.
Maybe, I can give her something to hold onto, and change the way she... sees things...
She nodded, wiping tears from her cheeks again.
"Under one condition."
She froze. What could he want from her?
"You're going to tell me why you're so dry in this heavy rain."
She giggled and rolled her fiery eyes.
"I'm a fire elemental. I can heat myself up to stay dry... It does hit me, but I dry it so quickly because I'm so warm," she riplied swiftly.
"Oh, that's brilliant."
She smiled towards him and then became mischievious.
"You wanna know something else I can do too?"
The Doctor bowed his head slightly. She took his hands in hers and shut her eyes. He was filled with warmth and was instantly dry. He swallowed at the heat he was feeling within; it was like putting warm clothes on when your colder than ice.
"Thats... Thats remarkable..."
She smiled and pulled away from him. If she held on too long she would burn him apart. She didn't want to kill him. She had done it unintentionally to her parents pets when she was too young to control it. Thats why they left her.......
Even after that, the Doctor was still dry and warm. He had stood up by then, a hand reached out to her.
"Come on. I'm taking you on an adventure."
