Prologue

"Dad what do you do at work?" asked the little boy sitting in the backseat of the family's Nissan Maxima. "Well Alexander, I help the company by letting other people know what we make. We also tell them why ours is the best one in the market." said the tall and slender man driving the car. He pushed up his glasses when they hit a stop light. The windows were rolled down so the cool night air can seep into the car. It was an average Tuesday night as this family was heading home from a wonderful meal at a local restaurant. "Hey Dad, so does that mean you make the best things in the world?" the little boy asked. The father chuckled to himself and said, "We sure do son." The boy then asks his father, "Does that mean you also make the best ice cream in the world?"

"You still want more?" said the mother sitting in the passenger seat of the car. "Haha yes we do and maybe some day you can try it" the father says while he presses on the gas when the light finally turns green. The boy looks over at the car to his right and watches as it also goes down the street they are headed. The father tunes in the radio to a news station making a report on the war in Afghanistan. The father just sighs to himself when he hears about the reports of casualties.

"Dad?" the boy asked softly.

"What is it Alexander?"

"What's war?"

"War. Hmmm lets see. War is a thing that people do when they are in a difficult situation. Sometimes you have a problem that can resolve it easily, but then there's times when you really can't. Sometimes war is necessary. For example remember when you were taught about World War II in school?" The father looks into the rear view mirror to see his son nod his head. "Hitler was a very bad man who was doing very bad things and he had to be stopped so no one else would get hurt. So the United States helped the good guys or the Allies as they called them so that they could stop that evil man." The boy sits in amazement and intrigue while listening to his father. "Other times war is not really necessary, I for one do not like any of it what so ever. War can be stopped but with both of those parties of people that work together to fix the problem."

The little boy sits there for a second thinking and then asks, "Well how do you stop war from happening dad?" The father then stops the car again at another stop light. "In order to stop war really it all depends on the children." the father tells his child while waiting for the light to turn green. "It does?" says the boy in a confused tone. "It really does," answers the father, "the children who ultimately will shape how the world becomes after the ones before them so they must do their best to work out each others problems and work together peacefully so that they don't have to deal with the horrors of war." The light finally turns green and the dad slowly presses on the gas for the car to move forward through the four way intersection.

"Babe watch out!" the mother yells as the dad turns to his left to see blinding lights racing towards them. The Nissan is suddenly hit by a truck moving at dangerously high speeds which causes the Nissan to spin out as the truck continues to barrel forward a bit before slowly coming to a stop. The left side of the hood is almost completely crushed and the glass in the window shield has broken into millions of tiny fragments. The boy opens his eyes to see that the event is over. The mother turns around to see that the boy is not completely harmed and gives out a sigh of relief. "Thank God you're okay." She says as then looks over to the father

.The father is slumped over the wheel and motionless. "Babe are you okay?" she frantically says as she nudges the man. There is no response. "Babe? C'mon babe! Do something!" The wife yells as she tries to rouse the man. Sirens can be heard in the distance as some pedestrians come to check the wreck. "Hey don't worry we've called 911 already they should be on their way soon." A man yells as he runs over to the wreck. Another voice is heard yelling, "Hey go check on that driver in the truck! We'll make sure this family is okay!"

The wife, now in tears is still trying to get the father to respond and the boy just watches as the mother tries to wake him up. "Dad?" the little boy asks scared. "Dad please wake up for Mom. Please dad. Please I'll do all the chores. Please dad please." The little boys lips began to quiver and tears streak down his face. "Dad? Wake up dad! Wake up! Wake up daddy please!" the little boy yells as the ambulance finally arrives on the scene. The paramedics pile out of the ambulance and run over to help the family. They open the door for the passenger and guide her out as the wife is pleading with them to help her husband. "Daddy wake up!" the little boy yells as he gets out of his seat and constantly tries to nudge his father to wake up. A paramedic then opens the back side door and grabs the child.

"DAD! DAD! DAD!" the child yells as he hangs onto the driver seat to try and stay. The paramedic tries pulling harder and then finally the child's grasp on the seat is lost. The other paramedic rushes over to the driver seat to try and get the father out of the driver seat.

"DAD! WAKE UP! DAD! DAD! DAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
