"Finally, you're awake." Lucy had finished eating the table. Glaucia had woken up feeling unusually warm...and she had her arms wrapped around something hard and sturdy. It reminded her of when she would cuddle with her older brother. Wait....
"What the heck did you do, Lucy?!" Glaucia sat up.
"Not letting you get sick." Lucy grabbed her slippers and brought them over, along with a sweatshirt. By this point, Glaucia had a general idea of what happened.
"You didn't," Glaucia's voice started to rise. Her roommate ran back into the kitchen to grab the food. "And she did." She suddenly felt a pair of warm wrap around her waist, "What do you want?"
"Someone's grumpy," Kaiden huffed, "We have training at three today."
"Wait, what?" Glaucia broke free of his hold and turned towards him.
"Skating rink....at three?"
"When did I agree..." It all came rushing back to net. Her narcolepsy kicked in and she got really tired. In Glaucia's sleeping fit, she agreed to be his partner!
"Anyways," Kaiden pulled Glaucia, with her back to his chest, onto his lap. The Italian held her in place by wrapping his arms around Glaucia's waist. "Hold still. You're getting cold again."
"What do you mean?" She curled up into a ball, half asleep as she basked in the warmth.
"Hey, Lucy. She's falling asleep again." Kaiden summoned Lucy as soon as Glaucia was out cold on his lap. The light haired brunette came over after a few minutes.
"Alright, just let her sleep for now."
Kaiden asked, "Does this happen frequently?"
"Not as much as you might believe. Usually she's just really tired and forces her self to stay awake with some assistance from medications, but if she's really stressed out, no medication can help," Lucy explained. "If she's active, like skiing or doing or doing school work, she usually stays awake. That's one of the reasons why she does a lot of quilting in her free time. It makes her think, which means it keeps her awake."
"I'll put her back under the covers." Kaiden slid her back under the thick quilts and pulled them over. "If Glaucia fights going to the rink, call the hockey team."
After putting Glaucia back to bed, Kaiden hopped onto one of the counter's high chairs. He bit into the perfectly made toast. There were only two plates; one for him, and one for Lucy. "Is Glaucia not going to eat?"
"She gets morning sick and hardly has an appetite in the morning," Lucy answered while shoving a piece of bacon in her mouth. "So I stopped forcing her to eat. It's easier than holding her hair back every morning and adding even more meds into her diet."
"That's not healthy," he mumbled, "Make her eat anyways."
"She'll face the consequences of it one day," Lucy sighed as she went into deep thought.
. . .
Glaucia stood at the top of the slope, pumped to prove several other alpine skiers wrong. Some of her classmates had the guts to say that she couldn't race—and win—going down on of the steepest runs. They expected her to wipe out if she went without showing down.
Sam looked at the line up of teens. He knew this would be nothing more than a warm-up for Glaucia. "Alright, you lot know the rules. No dirty tricks, and keep your poles to yourselves," he shot a look at a student in yellow, "And that means you, Chris."
Glaucia rolled her eyes beneath her goggles as Chris smirked. The troublemaker went ignored by the rest as they all got in position to start.
With confirmation from all participants, Sam raised his hand. "Ready, set, go!" He waved his hand down. They all plummeted down the hill, but not as fast as the petite skier. She flew past the, without breaking a sweat.
