Wills POV
"Are you sure you don't mind if I stay here, I mean I can go home if you want."
"Yeah of course I don't mind." I looked over at Niall who was wishing for that answer anyway. I leaned in closer to him to make sure Belle didn't hear. "Besides, I would feel safer if we were both there with Belle, you know?" He shook his head confirming he would rather be with her too. Belle looked distant, staring out of the front window of the taxi.
We pulled up outside my house. The house I shared with my brother. The same brother that tried to kill my best friend.
The front path seemed different. As I walked the length of it, it didn't feel inviting and calm as it normally does. Putting the key in the front door was different too. I was anxious that when I opened the door, Sam would be there. He wasn't.
He wasn't in the living room either, nor the kitchen. It appeared that no one had been in the house since I left. For the next few hours I was apprehensive every time I entered a room, in case he was there, but I was being silly. Of course he wouldn't come back here. He had more sense than that. He knew they were all waiting for him.
That night, Niall, Belle and I ate pasta while we watched whatever we could find on the TV. They were both jumpy and on edge all night. Every loud noise on the TV, every bird outside, no one could relax.
It was around 11pm when Belle fell asleep on Niall.
"Thanks mate for letting me stay here. I don't think I would have liked to have gone home, knowing I couldn't protect Belle."
"It's fine. I think it's better that you're here anyway. You never know when you will be needed."
"Thank you though, I mean it. You're a good friend."
I simply smiled back and returned to watching the TV. Before I knew it, it was almost midnight.
"I think I'm going to bed, I'll take Belle with me. Is it alright if we stay in Sams room?" There was hesitation when he spoke. I knew he didn't want to stay in Sams bed, when he knew Belle had to sleep in it with Sam. I nodded, allowing him to lift Belle and carry her to the doorway.
Just as they disappeared down the hallway, I heard the familiar sound of my message tone. As quietly as possible, I crossed the room towards the dining table where my phone rested. Desperate not to be heard, I turned the device in my hand to silent, before unlocking it and reading the message.
It was from a blocked number.
"What was that?"
I span around fast, shoving my phone into the pocket of the jeans I was wearing. "W-what?"
It was Niall. "I thought I heard something outside, then when I looked out of the back window, I saw a flash or something."
"Huh? No what? I didn't hear anything. It was probably the wind."
Before he could say anything else I pushed past him and ran up the stairs, shouting "Goodnight" as I slammed the door. I was panicking. Pacing the room, hoping Niall didn't suspect anything.
"Don't look so shifty."
The shock of an unexpected voice in my room made me stumble backwards onto my bed.
"Be quiet, or someone will hear you."
"What are you doing here?" I rapidly searched around the room to find the person who was talking.
"I came to see you obviously. Niall nearly caught me though, I'll have to be more careful next time."
"You can't come here again, I don't want to do this anymore."
"Don't be silly." A hand was offered to me so I could stand once again. Reluctantly I took it, only as I would rather be standing at a time like this. "We're in this together, remember?"
"I know but I don't think I am the best person for the job." The uninvited person started walking around the room we were both confined to, making me more tense than before.
"Listen, we have a deal, unless you want to drop your side of it, which of course is your decision, but it will result in consequences."
"Come on, this isn't right, it's not too late to pull out."
"No!" There was a temporary silence while we both recovered from the shouting. "I am doing this whether you're in or not. It would be easier though, with your help Will."
I looked over at the person who had proposed an interesting suggestion to me earlier that day. It was tempting but seemed so wrong at the same time. It was risky, and if we were caught, our lives were over. But this person deserved it. I had been convinced that they deserved to die.
"So we only have ten days, tomorrow they will find the next part of the countdown. Are you in?"
I looked them in the eye. Smiled slightly, covering up the doubts in my mind. "I'm in."
