Chapter 11
The week after the brunch from hell passed by quickly. I had not seen Harry since that fateful incident, and therefore our daily banter was no longer able to help distract me from my work. However, since he was gone, I had less tedious work to do. I remained mostly in the kitchens with Aaron, and our conversations involved much less arguing than my quarrels with Harry.
According to the other staff workers, Harry was staying in his flat in London for the week, enjoying the city party scene. The tabloids also reported him clubbing frequently--not that I was intentionally finding information on his whereabouts. Lily did enough of that for the both of us.
Once I told Lily about all the events that happened at the castle, she became obsessed with finding all the information she could about Harry. I shook my head at the thought. Oh that soon-to-be lawyer and her compulsive need to research. By the end of the week, I was more than ready for the weekend and had arranged to stay at Lily’s apartment. We sat in front of her flat screen TV, movies and food lined up all around us, ready for a girls’ night in.
“I never liked that Flee girl,” she commented randomly with disdain.
“Lily, you’re just saying that because you want Prince Harry,” I laughed.
She shook her head passionately. “That is not true at all. I want you to have Prince Harry,” she clarified.
I rolled my eyes. “Lil, even if that was possible--which it isn’t since you seem to keep forgetting that I’m disguised as a guy while working for him--I wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot pole.”
“Okay, sure...” she said, unconvinced.
I sighed loudly. “Can we stop talking about him? I’m still pissed that he let me take the blame for the brunch incident.”
She nodded her head in agreement. “That was a jerk move.”
I turned towards her. “That’s an understatement if I’ve ever heard one.”
She didn’t respond but instead moved to grab one of the DVDs in front of us. “I’m picking the first one,” she commented as she placed the disk into the DVD player.
“Go for it,” I replied, grabbing a handful of popcorn.
The menu for the movie appeared on screen shortly after, and I laughed as I saw what movie she had chosen.
“John Tucker Must Die? Oh my god, I haven’t seen this since high school,” I smiled.
She pressed play, and we watched the movie, adding our own commentary in places and eating loads of junk food.
“This is actually really disgusting,” I mentioned when we arrived at a certain part of the movie. John Tucker, the lead character, was juggling three girls at once, going on dates with all three of them at the same restaurant on the same day at different times. I tried to fight back the emotions and memories that flooded my mind of a long-since-forgotten past experience. I didn’t want Lily to sense my change in behavior--she didn’t know what I was upset about after all, and I didn’t feel like explaining.
“I bet Harry plays a bunch of girls exactly like that,” I remarked offhandedly, saying the first thing that came to mind that didn’t directly relate to my other thoughts.
