What To Do

You drive as fast as you can through all of the hectic traffic wondering how you will earn $20 in two days.  You have no work this week, being Christmas week.  So, you must think of a plan B.  On the way home you're very tempted to stop by Starbucks and get a coffee but you know you need to save all the money you can.  As soon as you get home you rummage through your dresser drawers and furniture for ANY loose change you can find.  You end up finding two nickles, three buttons, four candy wrappers, and a partridge in a pear tree.  Knowing there is no way you are going find $20 dollars lying around your house you call your boss.  "Hello, sir.  I'm so sorry to bother you.  I know it being Christmas and all I should be grateful for the week off.  Don't get me wrong, I am very thankful.  I would like to work at least one shift to try to earn some money to afford a gift for my gf/bf."  You sit nervously waiting for a response.  "Sure, y/n.  This works out great.  Another employee called in sick today and they won't be here tomorrow.  If you come fill in there spot, that would be great.  From 11am-4pm"  You think about your plans at that time and reply with, "That would be a great time.  Thank you so much!"  As soon as you're done with your conversation you do the math of how much money you will earn in that shift.  *$8 an hour for five hours.  $40!  Great!*  You run to your room and make sure you have your work uniform cleaned and ready to go.

*Next Day*

You wake up at 10:30.  *Crap, I slept through all of my alarms!*  You quickly get up and get dressed, not caring about showering.  You showered yesterday, nothing a little deodorant can't fix.  You run out the door at 10:45.  On the way to work you stop by Starbucks to get a quick coffee.  As soon as you arrive to work you see how hectic it really is.  Every aisle filled with people trampling each other for the best deals.  *Ok, I will just work and get out as soon as possible.*  You go to the aisle you were assigned.  As soon as people start to realize another line is open they all stampede your direction.  The first lady thought something was on sale but really wasn't making everyone wait in line as you delete it of the list.  Then, the same lady's total comes out to be $121.45.  "Oh, sweetie.  I only have $120."  She looks at you like she is expecting you to help her out and pay the remainder.  Instead she just removes another item off of her list.  By now, people at the end of the line are going to the next line over.  * I can get through the day.*

*Lunch Break*

When your lunch break rolls around, you're already stressed out.  You walk over to the vending machine.  Just now remembering that you needed to pack a lunch.  You put a dollar in and get a granola bar.  You saver the treat knowing it will be the only thing you get to eat until you get home.  You look at the clock. *1:35*  Only a few more hours until you can go home and sit the warmth of your fireplace knowing you no longer need to worry about getting a gift for your sweetheart.

*4:00*

*Yes!  I can get out of here*  As soon as you get all of your stuff together you go to your boss and ask when will you be getting paid.  He tells you, tomorrow.  *Perfect, as soon as I get my paycheck I will run over and get my darling that lovely gift.*  As soon as you get home you get into your comfortable footy pajamas, make some hot cocoa and turn on the Polar Express.  As you get ready to sit down and push play on your movie your phone rings.  You pick up your phone.  It's your best friend.  "Hey, what's up?"  As you wait for a reply you hear sniffling and realize they are crying.  "Is everything ok?"  You wait as they take a second to steady their breathing.  "It's your bf/gf...... There was a horrible car accident..... The hospital isn't sure if he/she will be able to heal from their injuries.... I'm so sorry..."  You drop the phone in shock, run out the door, (not caring your attire) and drive as fast as you can to the hospital.
*Was working today just a huge waste of my time?!*
