Alec Lightwood stared at Maureen Brown's slight figure, her blond hair and pink unicorn shirt. Maureen's body was a shorter, smaller version of Clary's own tiny frame. Precisely, he realized, but only Clary wasn't marveling in blood. Her purple leggings were drenched in blood. She was obviously waiting for him to speak, but his mouth was bone dry. As she waited for his response, she licked the blood of her hands. Alec said nothing. Bored of waiting for him to say something, Maureen giggled at his shock. "SO, stupid," She mused with the emphasis you might use when speaking to a three year old. "That means I am the head of the clan!"

Alec finally found his breath. He ought to say more, like "I have to tell the Clave", or maybe just kill her, but the only breath coming out of him seemed to say "You're insane. You are utterly out of your mind." As he stood shocked at his own words, Maureen's blue eyes flashed with anger. Deciding not to get her angry, Alec tried again. "How did you kill her?" Maureen merely stayed silent, her wide eyes sparkling with danger. Alec suddenly felt an urge to kill her, but he stayed his ground. She was a vampire, and if she could kill Camille, then it wouldn't do much for a heart broken teen like Alec to die, either. His hand twitched on the Seraph blade, a small, barely notice-able move, an instinct. But Maureen saw. She lunged at him, Alec giving a short yell of surprise before he was pummeled to the ground.

Maureen grasp was strong, not matching her frail little arms. Alec twisted his body to and fro, trying to unbalance her, but she barely wavered. Her teeth glinted like crystals as her incisors slid out from their sheaths...

Alec felt a sudden sensation of piercing pain and a fuzzy world as she sank her teeth into his neck. It went on and on, making him gasp. Alec felt a sudden surge of strength and he pushed her off and stumbled upwards. Her eyes were crazed, thirsty and wild, framed by her pale face and tangled blonde hair. It made him scared, so so scared.

Maureen gave Alec a smile that made him turn and run very abruptly out of the room.

Thankfully, Maureen did not use her speed to catch up with him, allowing him to jet home. She just laughed, a laugh that bounced off the walls and rang in his head. Alec wasn't only thinking about her, he was thinking of Magnus, too, and what he said.

He was right. Alec couldn't be trusted.

Maryse handed Jace the paper that was found with the angel wings. "I think we know who left it." She said faintly, her wide blue eyes condensing in fear. Taking deep breaths, Jace forced his golden eyes to read the cramped handwriting.

I am coming.

Bile forming in his throat, he thrust the paper at Maryse, sucking in his breath. "Was anyone hurt?" He said, doing his best to keep his voice even. Maryse hesitated. "Isabelle and Alec are fine but we don't know if-"

Jace's eyes widened, heavenly fire burning inside of him. He could only form one thought. Clary. Clary. Clary.

"Clary." He breathed, his glowing hand diving into his pocket, grabbing his phone. "Jace-" Maryse said hesitantly. "No." Jace prompted. "I need to see if she is alright." Maryse sighed at her son, relenting. "Then take your call outside." Grumbling and jetting out as fast as possible, Jace obeyed. His heart caught in mid beat as his long fingers fumbled with the buttons to Clary's number. He could visualize her pink phone vibrating in her pocket, her soft hand moving to answer. But she wasn't. The ringer went on and on until one thing was clear.
