I found myself watching Sara and the rest of the baseball team laughing and talking, splashing each other around in the swimming pool.
Dad, Mom, Teressa and the other coaches were inside having a grown up gathering while all the teenagers were in the backyard having fun. I did feel kind of awkward sitting on the edge of the pool watching the guys splash each other around. Sara was preoccupied with Dean. Like I said earlier, she moves fast.
"What's with the frown?" Ethan asked sitting beside me.
I looked at him. "I wasn't frowning," I said. Was I?
He shrugged. "I beg to differ," he said. "So are you too cool to join the pool party?" he asked eyeing my short shorts and tank top. Everyone was dipping in for a swim, except for me.
"It's a bit too chilly for me to get wet," I said truthfully. It was now seven o'clock and it was already dark. The hot weather had disappeared with the sun and it was now replaced with a chilly breeze.
I looked around, hoping to see Zane but he was nowhere to be found.
"Have you seen Zane?" I asked Ethan standing up and looking around.
"Oh, he's getting a drink for everyone."
I nodded and headed inside. Maybe Zane needed my help. I mean he couldn't possibly carry a drink for twenty-two people by himself. Humming a random song, I walked into the kitchen right when he was pulling a whole box of root beer out of the fridge.
"Need help?" I asked.
He jumped, obviously surprised by my presence. I chuckled a little bit. It was amusing to see a man like him get scared easily.
He smiled, embarrassed. "Sure," he said handing me the box and taking another one out of the fridge.
"You having fun?" I asked trying to make small talk.
"Wonderful."
Everyone was out of the pool when Zane and I got back out the backyard.
"Drinks anyone?" I yelled attempting to raise the box of drinks over my head.
There was a loud cheer as the guys hollered and came close to me for drinks. Once everyone got what they wanted we all settled and sat on the grass on a big circle.
"So what do you guys do for fun around here?" the catcher Brandon asked.
Sara and I looked at each other and smiled. "Clubs," we said in unison.
"That's what I'm talking about," a guy who was sitting next to Ethan said.
"Aren't you underage?" Zane asked beside me.
I was fully aware of how close we were to each other. Our sides were touching and let me say that he was very warm. The same sparks I felt yesterday ran through my arms. Once again I found myself thinking whether he could feel it too.
I shrugged. "Fake ID's."
Zane smirked, "Didn't know you were such a bad girl."
His comment made my cheek burn.
"What are you guys whispering over there?" Sara asked winking at me. Dean's arms were around her and they actually looked really cute together.
