Kai did not dream and when he finally came to, there was plenty of confusion. He had no clue where he was and he could not see. He tried opening his eyes, but found that he could not. Kai started panicking and tugging at his wrists. He was buckled down to a table and something covered his eyes. Through the binding, Kai could see just the smallest shimmer of light. Something moved in front of the light and Kai froze. Someone was in the room with him.
He strained his ears for the slightest sound of movement and he got what he wanted. There were two male voices.
"You didn't have to hit him so hard, brother." A voice mocked disapprovingly. It was a male voice, soft and kind, yet determined. It reminded Kai of what his father's voice used to sound like.
"Seriously? What would you have done?" Another voice replied. Odysseus, it was definitely Odysseus' voice.
"Anything but violence. He's the one that's going to help us, and I know that he won't want to now. I wouldn't want to help the guy who beat me up."
"But he will help us, Deidre said so."
"And you believe everything Deidre says?"
"Of course not! She's a crazy psychopath, but the fact that this guy exists... I'd say she's right this once."
“He’s part of the prophecy. Deidre would’ve killed you if you’ve done permanent damage to Kai.”
“Why would I be afraid of a girl? Who cares if I piss off Deidre?”
“You wouldn’t have said that if she was here. You know you’re afraid of her, everyone is.”
“I’m not afraid of anything.” Odysseus shouted and through the silence, Kai heard a low thump and soon someone swore. “That’s a warning,” Odysseus growled. “Never talk to me like that again.”
Feet stormed off and a door slammed. “That brother of mine needs a better temper.” The other man murmured.
Kai sat in silence, daring not to move. He weighed his options; Move and he could possibly reach inside his pocket and get his knife and do whatever the hell he would do next. But there was still a pretty good chance that the man in the room with him was violent. He could kill Kai if he even moved his fingers. However, if Kai didn't move, he could be stuck here forever and the unknown man could kill him just for staying too still. Both options were thought to the extreme, but what choice did he have? He decided to shift... just a little.
Kai moved his finger slightly and breathed in a soft sigh while still keeping his eyes closed. "Are you awake, Kai?" The man questioned quietly, obviously not wanting to wake him if he was still asleep. Kai groaned softly and shifted some more. "Kai?" The voice asked again and whoever it belonged to seemed to scoot closer. Even though he gently tapped Kai on the shoulder, it was hard enough to make him jump in surprise. He wasn't expecting the touch of this man. The man laughed and bent over to remove the cloth from Kai's eyes. "I guess you were awake for a while; Clever, Kai." Slowly, the fabric was removed and Kai gasped in surprise. It was so bright! He started blinking rapidly and he tried to cover his eyes with his hands, but remembered he was cuffed. The man bent over, blocking his vision so he was forced to stare into the strangers green eyes. Kai gathered up the saliva in his mouth and spit on the man's face. He moved back, startled while wiping it away on his face.
"What the hell, man? That's disgusting!"
In a hoarse voice, Kai croaked, "It's what you get for kidnapping me."
"Oh, I didn't kidnap you that was my brother." Pointing to himself the man continued," We're twins."
Although Kai could see similarities, he definitely did not see them being doubles. Where Odysseus was strong and husky, his brother was skinny, though muscular. He looked about sixteen although like his brother, he was probably around eighteen or nineteen years of age. Odysseus’ hair was almost a white color of blond, while his twin was dirty blond. Odysseus was wearing sunglasses when Kai saw him so he couldn’t see his eyes, but he noticed that his twin had dark green eyes. Odysseus had frown lines all throughout his face; he was not used to smiling. However, his brother looked just the opposite. For the first time, Kai felt a spark of hope rise in his chest. He might be able to get out alive; this man wouldn't be able to kill him.
