Heyyy wassup my readers? Huh? What was that? Cut the gansta act? *sigh* okay. Anyway, here's the chapter! And no chapter starts better than with a flashback! Also, Serena is on the picture of the chapter. Oh, and I can't fix the spacing so can you tell me if you're able to tolerate it? If not, I'm still trying to get it fixed. I think I could get it fixed by the third chapter? And if you're thinking "just hit enter twice" I tried that. I still get the same spacing. I have to hit enter like 8 times to get a big space. Anyway, thanks, chapter time!
Serena's POV
FLASHBACK"Hello," I say randomly to the girl by me in the playground as I hang upside down on the monkey bars. "Yellow," she responds with a toothy grin. She has golden blonde hair and is in a long sleeve, tutu, and tights. Meanwhile I on the other hand have capris and a long sleeve.
"I'm Serena," I tell her. "I'm Abigail," she replies. "Ok Abby," I say, grabbing her hand. "I like you," she decides, tapping her chin. I raise my voice,"Abby and Serena sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-" "-Not like that!" She interrupts, flushing and hitting my arm. I grin mischievously. "Abby and Serena sitting in a friendship tree, P-L-A-Y-I-N-G!" This time Abby lets me finish, a grin on her face.
Then I am suddenly falling onto the ground. I look up dazedly to see the school jerk smiling triumphantly. Everyone liked me except him. I liked everybody except him. Pretty much no one liked him.
Tears well in my eyes as I clutch my scraped knee. I don't notice Abby climbing the monkey bars with skill. I look up suddenly just in time to see Abby punch the school jerk so hard his head recoils and he topples off the monkey bars. She scurries down to my side and inspects my knee. "Are you okay?" Abby asks, concerned. I gaze into her green eyes. And this is the start of a long lasting friendship.Serena's POV
BACK TO THE PRESENT"You know what I'm talking about, Serena? It's just so unfair!" Abby yelled.
"Wait, what are we talking about again?" I asked, scratching the back of my head. Today I am clad in a black long sleeve, Capri jeans, a side-braid, and of course my red converse.
Abby has a cute light pink blouse, a skirt, and tights. Don't forget her black boots! Oh, don't do that. I made the mistake of not packing her black boots one time when we went camping. I never heard the end of it. And she said I had a shoe obsession!
"You're not paying attention again, are you?" Abby accused.
"Maybe?" I questioned myself.
"Okay, well," she said and started explaining everything again. I made the same mistake and tuned her out.
I had always had my red converse. I just bought the next size up when my feet grew. They were an actual part of me. If anyone insulted them, I- I don't know what I'd do. But it would definitely land me in jail.
"See what I mean?!" She vented angrily.
I sighed. "Yes, Abby, I do."
Her eyes lit up. "Really? I thought you'd respond with the usual 'my converse are great blah blah blah'."
"My converse are great!" I retorted.
She sighed. "And you've just a proved my point."
Ring ting ting!
I did the "I'm watching you" gesture and mumbled,"Saved by the bell," as I dug my phone out of my pocket. Abby scurried away while I was distracted. I watched her retreating figure with disapproval.
"Yes? Hello? Who is this?" I asked the person on the other line.
"Hi Serena, I'm in a pickle and I kinda need your help..." I frowned. I didn't recognize the voice but said voice knew my name...
"Who is this?" I repeated, a frown still etching my features.
"Dick Thompson... Do you not remember me from grade school? Remember, your friend punched me so hard she broke my nose and it never healed right."
"School jerk?!" I exclaimed, my eyes widening.
A husky laugh sounded from the other line. My cheeks reddened.
"Yes."
"You said something about needing my help..?" I trailed off.
"Oh, yeah. Can you meet me at the Alina hospital? Come ASAP, preferably as soon as you're done with school."
I barely had time to reply,"Ok. Abby and I will be there," before my glorious iPhone 5s with a panda case was snatched out of my hands.
"Oh, Dick is it?" Abby asked, twirling a strand of hair around her finger.
Was she flirting with School Jerk?!
Abby laughed. "Who am I? Ha, you're so funny. I'm the friend who broke your nose. Don't call again."
Hahaha, definitely not flirting. Abby went to terminate the call, but I snatched my phone from her hands.
"We'll be there," I said and ended the call before Abby could interject.
Abby glared. "What was that?"
I shrugged. "With time comes forgiveness, and let's not forget that he sealed our friendship with a blood oath."
Abby shook her head. "A lot of people deserve a second chance, but not him."
"What did he ever do to you?" I asked, bewildered.
"He punched you."
"But we had just become friends then. It can't have bothered you that much," I stated, leaning forward.
Abby sighed. "When I was three, I was at the beach. I had a winning sandcastle, for sure. It was magnificent and had three levels." She looked wistfully into the distance. "The judges came over to look at mine. I could almost taste the prize." She frowned suddenly. "I don't remember what the prize was, only that was so important to me that I would kill for it."
"So the judges came closer, and then it was my turn to be judged. Then this one kid who's jealous of my sandcastle punches me in the face and as I fall down into the sand, bleeding and crying, I accidentally crush the drawbridge and I cry even harder. The kid sees this and kicks my sandcastle over and over as I watch, and he destroys it. Next thing I know he's in my class and I make a new friend and guess what he does? He pushes my new friend off the monkey bars. So I punch him back and I cannot tell you how good it felt."
I was silent during Abby's story, but now I'm just pissed off. I dug my phone out of my pocket and dialed up School Jerk. Wait, no, that name doesn't work anymore. He isn't just a jerk at school. So his new name is Jerk.
He doesn't pick up and he doesn't have a voicemail. Fan-flipping-tastic. Now I can't yell at him and tell him how much of a dick he was! I guess I'll have to wait...
"Come on, let's get to class," Abby said, blowing hair out of her eyes. She looked ticked off still.
"Okay, let's get to class," I agreed, grabbing her hand and dragging her down the hallway after slipping my phone back into my pocket.Later in class...
"Abby!" I whisper-shouted to her from across the room.
"Yes?" She whisper-shouted back.
"You guys are really bad whisperers," my science teacher fake-whispered, leaning forward on his elbows on his desk.
I blushed slightly, but covered it up,"We probably would be better whisperers if we sat next to each other," I stated, batting my eyelashes innocently. Mr. Chalk (yes, that is his actual name, and his wife is one of my teachers too) glanced at me as if contemplating. Hope rose in my chest. "No," Mr. Chalk blatantly said.
"Please?" Abby piped up from her seat across the room.
"No," he replied smoothly and sat by his computer so he could show us the slideshow. "Plan B," I mouthed to Abby. She grinned and nodded.
I coughed.
Abby ran over to me. "OHMYGOD BESTIE ARE YOU OKAY?!" she exclaimed, shaking me. I could tell she was trying hard to hold back her laughter, and I had to bite my lip to not burst out laughing as well. "I'm fine bestie, I'm fine," I said, pulling her into a hug.
Mr. Chalk was staring, a muscle in his jaw ticking in annoyance. I blushed and looked down sheepishly. He returned to his slideshow after a moment.
Abby sneezed.
I ran over to her side, tears streaming down my face. "OHMYGOD ABBY ARE YOU OKAY ARE YOU DEAD OHMYGOD". A couple of kids were snickering now. I shot Abby a triumphant stare to show her that I had out-acted her and I knew it.
Mr. Chalk cleared his throat. I turned in his direction. A scowl was etched on his face. "Go back to your seat," he told me sternly. I nodded, squeezed a quick hug from Abby, and darted back to my seat.
He returned to his lecture, glancing at me and Abby occasionally to see what we were planning next.
I sighed.
Abby came running, tripping slightly on the way over. She came to my side and pulled me onto the floor with her, clutching me in her arms. "OH, SERENA, NOOOOOOO!" she wailed so loudly I thought students would come in to investigate.
Soon Abby went back to her seat and he continued his presentation, although it was kinda useless because the entire class was laughing so loudly no one was paying attention.
Abby exhaled.
I jumped over a desk, and the person sitting in it, to rush to her side. I let out a bloodcurdling scream. "ABBBY!"
Mr. Chalk stood up. "Get. Back. To. Your. Seats."
But I was too busy wailing as Abby and I were hugging.
Ring!
I directed a glare towards Mr. Chalk. "Saved by the bell."
He seemed stunned. I grabbed my stuff and walked out the door. Abby was following me.
"Now to deal with the wife," Abby muttered.
"Chillax Abbster! She has no reason to be mad at us, unless she somehow found out what we pulled on her husband..." I trailed off. "But she won't!" I finished in a moment.
"You don't know that," she grumbled in annoyance, pulling me into the classroom behind her.
"Hello Mrs. Chalk!" I chirped happily. She smiled in my direction. "Hello, dear. I trust you've treated my husband well?" Abby stiffened, but I played it off cool.
"You know it!" I whooped, taking my seat.
Ding!
Someone's phone rang. I dug my phone out of my pocket, but it wasn't my phone...
Mrs. C clucked. "Ha. I see." She recited directly from her phone screen. "Honey watch out because Abby and Serena are being bitches today. I'm sorry to have to send them your way."
"We are so going to get it!" Abby whisper-shouted to me. I nodded in agreement.Later in P.E. ...
"Ms. Gilbert, you're simply being irrational!" I squeaked, clutching on to Abby for dear life.
"You're on different squads. You simply can't be in the same team," Ms. Gilbert insisted.
"Isn't there some way to fix that?" I asked innocently, batting my eyelashes.
"No! Now get onto the field!" She roared, having enough of us. We had been having this discussion for twenty minutes now, and there was an injured student not being seen to because she was too preoccupied to notice...
"Please?" I asked as Abby elbowed me in the ribs. Mrs. Gilbert's livid look in return didn't frighten me in the slightest.
Abby grabbed my hand and dragged me out into the field.
"But, Abbster-," I begged only to be interrupted,"It's one class where we don't see each other. Man up."
"But I'm not a man!" I grumbled. "Woman up then," she insisted, pushing me out to my side of the field.
I swear I could hear "Ave Maria" playing.
"Abby NOOOOOO!" I cried, falling to my knees in the dirty grass.Later...
"Where are we going again?" I asked, glancing up from my phone that I had used to map the best way to Alina Hospital.
"Alina Hospital," Abby reminded me.
"I know that," I scoffed,"I meant where in the hospital."
She shrugged.
"Wow, a whole load of help you are!" I retorted sarcastically.
She held her hands out defensively in front of her. "Hey, it's not my fault! You never told me!" She accused.
"Maybe I didn't," I indignantly replied, sticking my tongue out.
A rustle of air is the only indication of someone bumping into me and making my phone go flying. "My baby!" I cried. Luckily, the stranger caught it and handed it to me. I cradled it in my arms, glaring at Stranger Guy. It was then that my eyes widened as I figured out who it was.
"So, we meet again Jerk," I hissed.
