Lana on side

____________

Lana Mantra:

It was obviously past midnight by the time I awoken. The only thing I could see was darkness, which is mainly why I became rather scared when I heard a voice.

"Lana."

I jumped with fear as I heard the old and raspy voice vibrate off the walls and into my ears. I didn't recognize the voice, and for some reason, this scared me.

"Lana are you in here?"

The voice came out as if it was strained. I made my eyes adjust to the dim moonlight that was coming in from the window. As soon as they did, I noticed three dark figures in the opening of my doorway.

The figure in the middle was hunched over, and holding on to both of the figures beside him. Based on their height, and build, it looked as if they were two men, and they were both struggling to hold onto the person in the middle.

That is when I realized that they weren't intruders- they were guards. And the person in the middle wasn't someone to be afraid of- it was my father.

"Daddy!" I jumped up and ran to the beaten looking figure before the word could completely leave my mouth. Just as I reached him, he fell to his knees in a coughing fit. My eyes widened at the sight before me. My mind couldn't comprehend what was going on.

The guards looked just as distraught as I did. After a good three seconds, I finally came back to reality. I dropped to my knees and embraced my now crying father. Never in my days have I ever seen this man cry. He was always strong, so brave, and never on the ground.

My eyes started to sting as the reality of the situation came down before me. All these months I have been denying it. I have been trying to ignore the situation completely. But now, right here in front of me, I can see the cold and harsh truth. My father is dying.

I looked up at the guards and started to scream.

"Get help you idiots! Turn on the light! Why is he in here? What happened to him!"

They looked at me, eyes becoming wide. No one has ever heard me scream. I am normally calm and collected in front of everyone. But I didn't give them long to process it, as I started to scream again when they didn't move as soon as I told them to.

"Are you deaf? Get your Alpha help! Now!" I felt my anger rise with every word. My wolf was at bay, just begging to come out and tear them alive. I have never really taken it well when people ignore orders, and neither did my father. Everyone in this land knew it.

I looked back down at the broken figure in front of me just as soon as the lights were turned on. He was bruised in many places. My eyes widened as they scanned over his hunched back. His shirt was torn, and you could obviously see that he was whipped.

"Lana," He croaked out once his coughing fit had ended.

"Yes, daddy? Do you need water? No wait, sorry. You need a bath. No, no." I started to let anxiety control me.

For the first time since he has entered this room, he looked up. I silently gasped as I seen his swollen and pale face. I brought my hand up slowly and started to caress his bruised cheek. He then gave me a weak smile.

"Calm down, sweetheart." His words relaxed me instantly. "I love you."

My eyes widened as I thought I knew what was about to come.

"Yes, daddy. I love you too. Very much." My breathing became as ragged as his.

No, No, No! Not right now, God. Don't you even think about it!

"I said calm down. Everything is going to be alright." he started to chuckle, but ended up coughing again.

"What happened to you.." My voice cracked at the last word as I examined his face to make sure he wouldn't lie to me. He would just to make sure I wouldn't worry. He's done it for the past several months now.

"I don't remember." His eyes filled with more tears as his head dropped.

"What do you mean?" I brought my hand to his chin and tugged on it to make him look at me.

He look embarrassed and his eyes showed that he was broken and hurt with his own excuse. His breathing started to cease into nothing but gasps for air again.

"Daddy? Dad calm down," My heartbeat was in my ears. I turned past him and looked at the empty hallway.

"Someone! Get help!" I screamed to the empty hallway. When no one came I started to get scared.

Where are all of the doctors? The other pack members?

"Help!" I screamed as loud as I could manage without my voice cracking. Just then one of the maids came around the corner, her eyes practically bulging out of her head when she seen the situation at hand. "Help him!" I screamed at her. She flinched and hesitated to come closer. "Now!" I growled at her. Her eyes were now wide with complete and utter terror.

She turned around and ran down the hallway to the bathroom to go and get a first-aid kit. As soon as she left, the two guards came back with a man I assumed was a doctor. He was carrying an oxygen mask.

"How long has he been off of this?" He practically screamed at me.

"I-I don't know. He was...and then he came..and was bruised.." I started to get light-headed and dizzy. My head hurt, and my lungs burned from the lack of oxygen.

The man quickly put the mask onto my father and started to check his pulse. I seen the doctor's eyes widen slightly.

"Oh, God," He mumbled the words to himself.

Worry stretched across my thoughts, as he started to lay my father on his back. He placed his hands on his chest, and started to slightly push down. Seconds later, many other doctors and nurses were in the room with different tools.

I slowly crawled away to the back of the room in the corner. I began to feel claustrophobia enter my body. Hugging my knees and rocking myself back and forth, I began sobbing loudly.

No, God. Don't do this. Don't do it to me. You've put us through enough!

I put my head in my hands and started to scream out of frustration and anger. Suddenly, all of the voices died down to quiet whispers. I couldn't make out any of the words, and that made me even angrier.

"What!"

They all jumped in fright and stared at me when I growled the word. One of the doctors slowly started to walk over to my broken form. I knew what was about to happen, but I was too far into denial to want to hear it.

"Miss. Mantra,"

He tried to gain my attention.

No...

"Miss. Mantra?"

He tried again. I wouldn't look at him.

Go away...

"We are so sorry to inform you..." His voice trailed off.

Please don't...

He started to speak again.

"That our mighty Alpha is dead."
