"Leave me alone," Elena sneered.
Amara gave Caroline a look seeing her amused face before saying "come on Elena lets go home. I'll get Tyler so he can walk us home," she didn't want to bother her parents at this hour and especial with a tipsy Elena.
"Why do you want to leave the party early?! The 'great Amara Gilbert'!" Elena spat out and her brown eyes flashed with anger. "When everyone sees me in the halls they'll say poor Elena had to be taken home by her perfect sister because she broke up with her boyfriend!"
Amara had to suppress the urge to roll her eyes at her sister. "Elena, you're being ridiculous-!"
Elena cut Amara off. Her sister's nostrils flared, she spun around on her heels and stormed off. Amara sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose after watching her sister disappear.
They both loved each other and if Elena had a problem Amara was the first person she came to, but why was it so hard for her and her sister to get along? Their relationship was sometimes filled with competitiveness, jealousy and envy but only from Elena's side.
Everything alway came so naturally to Amara, while Elena had to work hard at being charming and social. Mrs Lockwood could corner her at the Grill and Amara wouldn't freeze up. Mrs Lockwood would always try and guilt her into volunteering for whatever event the town had planned that week, but she'd laugh, make a witty comment and walk out scot free before the older women realised she had once again got out of town responsibilities.
Elena had Bonnie Bennett while Amara had Caroline Forbes. Amara and Caroline were the closest friends could ever get. Amara would always climb through Care's window and into her bed. Her parents didn't even have to call check if their youngest daughter was at her house or not, because they already knew the answer.
If she wasn't with Caroline she was with Tyler Lockwood. He was the Mayor's son and as long as she could remember they had always been close. Tyler respected her where he respected few others.
Being the more quieter and less social, Elena began being recognised more for being Amara Gilbert's twin, then for being Elena Gilbert.
And she hated it.
"Still want me to take you home?" Tyler asked.
She looked up and said "no, it's fine," she gave him a smile. "Elena would only be mad at me if you turned up to witness her bad mood."
Laughing he raised the beer to his lips to muffle the noise after she shot him a pointed look.
"See ya, Ty," Amara chuckled and gave him a quick hug, then jogged after her sister.
Amara took in the sight of Elena attempting to get in her parent's car, then when over to help.
"Need help?" From the look her sister gave her she didn't smother the laughter in her voice as well as she thought.
Her mum had a small disapproving frown as she observed Elena's less than graceful movements. "What's wrong with Elena?" Her father whispered to her as she slipped inside and closed the door.
"She broke up with Matt," Amara explained and shared a look of understanding with her mother.
"Well not all of us can flit from guy to guy like you, Amara," Elena shot at Amara venomously.
Her blue eyes widened, Amara whipped around to face her sister. Her orange hair when flying throw the air as she did so. Elena had pushed her to her limits. "It's not flitting from guy to guy, Elena, it's dating." She growled lowly, "You went out with Matt for a year, I haven't found anyone that I want to commit to yet, that does not make me a player!"
Her sister always brings up her love life like it was something to be ashamed of! She dated! It was normal! But you want know what wasn't normal?! Going on the first guy that asked you out and then staying with him for a whole damn year despite the fact that you were never particularly interested in the guy!
"Well, why can't you find someone?!" Elena hissed, her eyes was filled with anger and envy. "You've gone out with all the good-looking guys in our year already! you had that fling with Dylan Hanson a few months ago and he just graduated! Bonnie even told me you turned down Mick Chase tonight, and nobody does that!" She spat furiously.
"Girls, enough!" Grayson barked. "Elena, cool down, you're going to say something you'll regret."
Elena's face went slack as she realised how badly her ruthless sister would take such judgement.
Amara wasn't someone you wanted to get on the bad-side of and when provoked she was ferocious. Once she'd made up her mind about someone, that was it, it would take a miracle to change her opinion. But the real danger was her younger twin's temper and she didn't know where Amara got it from. Her beautiful, petite, fair-skinned sister had a fearsome temper. If she was successfully provoked she could verbally decimate individuals twice her age within minutes. A guy once tried to take advantage of her and he hadn't understood the meaning of 'stop'. He had unleashed a devastating anger the Elena had never seen in her sister before.
She'd destroyed the eighteen year old Jake Johnson and Elena watch from the sidelines as her sister broke every aspect of his life. A few words to Tyler and a couple of the guys on the football team, and Jake was in hospital with a broken leg and black eye, his football scholarship and his only ticket out of Mystic Falls vanished through his fingers. On good terms with all her teachers, Amara cashed in some favours from a few of the teacher's pets in school, getting them to start rumours about students cheating on their final exams.
Elena had no idea how Amara found out that Jake had cheated on his exams. All she knew is when Amara had finished with him, Jake Johnson's life wasn't worth living.
"We'll talk later," Amara stated softly and gave Elena a dark look.
Swallowing, Elena hated the feeling of guilt that spread through her body as she remember the hurt in her sister eyes. She'd called her out on her inability to settle down with one guy. They were always there for each other and they were twins they loved each other to death, but it was so hard sometimes. Elena push back tears, she felt petty for being mad at Amara for something she couldn't control. It wasn't her little sisters fault that she felt like she was sliding into the background and into her sisters shadow.
Amara was special and everyone in Mystic Falls knew that. She wasn't destined for a small town life and a small town boy. It was just so hard to be the sister of Amara Gilbert.
"Grayson! look out!" Miranda screamed.
Everything happened so fast that Amara early remembered it. Her mother and sisters screams, her fathers desperate yells as he tried to control the car and the shock concussion and pain across her ribs as they hit the water. She was thrown forwards and jerked violently against the straining seatbelt.
She did remember grabbing Elena's hand tightly and realised that that this would be the end of her life as her lungs started burning. She felt her sister's hand be tugged harshly out of hers and the current of the water moving as something beside her was pulled.
