Elena felt guilt as she put pen to paper.

Dear Diary,

Today was a little less awful then normal, but it was still awful. When someone asked if I was okay, I would put on a smile and say I was fine, but I'm far from fine. At school today so many people came over to me to say how sorry they were about what happen with Amara. I guess I should have expected that she was very popular.

The started closing in on me and it was starting to get to much.

Then I ran into him.

Stefan Salvatore.

He is handsome, intelligent, thoughtful and seems so different. I've never felt my heart race like this before! I tried to keep calm and not make a fool of myself. While Caroline was grilling him for details at the Grill, I realised that the whole time he was staring at me!

I couldn't believe it.

Stefan Salvatore, the guy every girl at school was talking about ....he was staring at me.

I know I'm pretty, very pretty, but I'm not use to getting the attention. If your sister looked like my sister did.....you would never be the first choice. I was never the first choice. Never.

Except now.

Amara wasn't there and people started noticing me. Elena Gilbert and for the first time in a long time I wasn't just Amara Gilbert's older twin sister. I was Elena. Stefan want to know if I was going to the party, me and no one else.

And it felt good.

I couldn't help but think of how things would have turned out different if Amara were still alive. All throughs of me would have vanished from Stefan's mind the second he had laid his eyes on Amara. Just like every other guy.

But she isn't here, is she?

And for a moment I was....glad.

Elena stared down at her diary horrified at what she had write and started feeling sick. She throw her diary away from her as if it was poison.

She let out a sob. How could even think that, feel that?!

She was a monster!

She missed her sister! So much!

She spun on her heels and paced around her room until she saw a movement outside her window.

She froze.

Then creeped closer to the window to get a better look and saw Stefan Salvatore's handsome face staring up at her window, with a sexy half smile.

Her guilt-ridden thoughts vanished just like that and taking their place was the feeling of excited anticipation.

She smiled.

Quickly she raced out of her room and down stairs to the front door.

Calming her nervous, she opened the door and smiled at the sheepish guy in front of her.

"Look I know it's late," he said stepping closer. "I just needed to know that you were okay."

His words made warmth spread through her chest. "You know, for months, that's all anyone's wondered about me. If I'll be okay."

"What do you tell them," Stefan asked with curiosity and it was his piercing gaze so full of real interest that pull on her heartstrings.

"That I'll be fine."

"Do you ever mean it?"

"Ask me tomorrow," Elena said with a small smile, leaning against the door. "It's warmer inside the house and we can talk." She hesitated for a moment before asking. "Would you like to come in?"

Stefan's eyes gazed into her's making her heart skip a beat and finally, he answered. ".....Yes."
