Jeremy stared at his hands and thought how could this happen? He and Jenna were talking on the couch waiting for everyone else to come home, but they never did.
After waiting hours Jeremy decided to go to bed because he was fed-up waiting. He'd remember forever the moment he knew something had happened. He was asleep and wake up when he heard his aunt scream, he ran down the stairs and saw Sheriff Forbes comforting Jenna. The flashing blue lights from the police cruiser lit up the dark street.
His stomach dropped and his legs began to wobble as he saw the Sheriff's tearful, sympathetic eye met his.
He froze.
Dead.
Gone.
His mother, father and sister.
They were all dead and Elena was the only surviver.
He didn't remember how he got to the hospital, or even out of the car. All he remembered was the doctor coming over to Jenna and him as soon as they stumbled into the emergency room. The doctor's had a mask of distress on his face.
In Mystic Falls, Grayson Gilbert had been a respected doctor and his wife and daughter's death had struck the nurses harder then most.
Jenna and he didn't leave Elena's side until she had woken up. Elena hadn't taken the news well, she screamed, cried and yelled out denials, not accepting their death. In the end, she and Jenna had gone to the morgue to look at their bodies.
He didn't want to see them like that. His strong father and gentle mother laid on cold slabs. He couldn't bear to remember them like that and God help him, he wouldn't be able to stand the sight of Amara like that. Amara, who loved life more then anyone he knew and was always laughing. Amara, who lit up room whenever she walked inside it. He couldn't see her like that.
Not her.
"Oh, Jeremy," Elena said weakly as she collapsed next to him. "What are we going to do?" Elena gasper through a strangled sob.
He couldn't breath. Everything was swelling up, the stress, anger and disbelief. It came crashing down on him and he couldn't breath through the pain.
"Oh God! Oh God!" Jeremy sobbed, breaking under the pressure. Cries fell from his mouth and tears coursed down his cheeks. "Oh God! Oh God!"
