Song for this chapter: inside out by avalanche city

I put the water bottle down and hugged my knees, forgetting about my pain-educed hips. One of the women must have noticed my pain and came to crouch infront of me. "Hey, hun, you okay? Anything broken?"
I looked up to see a middle-aged woman with short gray hair and a warm smile. I didn't say anything back to her, I just looked down at my filthy, thin hands. "You can talk to me, I'm not gonna hurt you. I just want to help, you don't look so good." She pushed.

She was right, I didn't look good, I didn't feel good either. My stomach always had a gurgling monster inside it and my muscle and the small layer of fat that I had was stripped from me. I must have bags under my eyes and matted hair. I felt feral. I felt like an animal.

I looked up to her and again said nothing. All I wanted to do was sleep. I couldn't sleep though, the nightmares would come back. Maybe if she helped me I would have a good dream for once. I slowly shifted in my position and pointed to my left hip, that was the place with most pain. "I'm Carol and I'm gonna have a look at your hip to make sure nothing is wrong okay? Can you lay down for me?" She said softly.

I took a big gulp and nodded again. I could use this chance of lying down to try and go to sleep. "Carl, what's her name?" Carol called out to Carl.
"Shannen." He replied and went back to doing what he was doing.

"Okay Shannen, I'm gonna poke around and if it hurts, you tell me so I can put some of this numbing paste on it. okay sweetie?" She assured me.

My heart rate picked up and my hands sweated a little bit, I didn't like pain, not one bit. I felt her poke me right on the bone and I flinched and yelped at the same time. "Okay, I'm just going to rub some of this paste on it now, I'm going as gently as I can but it will hurt. You've only sprained it so don't worry." Carol used her words wisely.

After Carol rubbed some of the paste in, the pain slowly eased away. I sighed in relief and closed my eyes. I was about to drift off when I heard someone speak up. "Okay we're gonna head off now! get your things together! Daryl can you carry the girl? Her hip is sprained." That sounded like Carl's dad.

Opening my eyes was tougher than I thought, they just wanted to stay shut. I saw a man walk over to me with a crossbow slung over his shoulder. "I'm Daryl." Was all he said.
The man picked me up and started walking down the leaf-covered road. "Jesus, you weigh nothing. You need to eat more, too skinny." He pointed out.

I ignored his statement and closed my eyes, listening to the sound of footsteps along the sealed tar.

"You're worthless, you know that?" Daryl dropped me.
"Yeah, why should we share our things with you, you're dead anyway." Carl shrugged his shoulders as if his accusations were nothing.

I shook my head in disbelief, why are they saying these things to me? This is an apocolypse, why would you bully here? "We wasted some valuable medicine on someone who's already dead!" Carol spat, throwing her arms into the air.

Carl's dad came up to me and booted me in the gut. "That's what you need to feel."
He kicked me in the same spot again, "You need to feel pain because you deserve it."

Everyone in the group was laughing, each of them holding their bellies, some rolling around on the floor. All of them had a turn at hurting me and telling me to either die or feel pain.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I woke up with a jolt, sending a jump throughout my body. As I looked around me I could tell that I was in a barn. I remembered the group, how they gave me food and water. Where were they?
I sat up, a small trickle of pain in my hip. I needed to leave, these people don't want me here. This time I won't take their supplies with me, I'll just go. I stood up and headed for the barn doors, carefully tiptoeing over the sleeping bodies of the group. While I was stepping over Daryl, he grabbed my ankle and made me jump. "And just where do you think you are going?" He grumped, sitting up.
"I'm leaving. You guys don't want me here, I'm an outsider." I answered.
Daryl sighed and rubbed his eyes. "So am I, but I'm here aren't I?" he said.
"I just feel like I shouldn't be here, so I'm gonna go." I said flatly and turned to leave.
Daryl grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. "Look, while you were out, a guy said that he has a safe haven, with alot of people called Alexandria. If we go there, then you can avoid us okay? Just don't leave now."
A safe haven sounded good, I could avoid them there easily if there are alot of people. I nodded and went back to the spot where I woke up from.
