The Voice Inside

"You're worthless."

I know.

How couldn't I? I was reminded almost every time I was even remotely close to being happy. Only, this torment didn't come from the people around me; no one would dare utter such words to their "queen bee". No, these words came from none other than myself. A hand wraps around my eyes, cutting off my calculating peer.

"Jeez Clar, your mirror's gonna crack if you keep glaring at it like that."

I spin around, meeting the short blonde's amused face. Her smile widened, revealing straight pearly whites, something I knew she worked all throughout middle school for. Her doe eyes were gleaming with mischief, no feeling of concerns or uneasiness seen. Britney was always like this; happy, carefree. Something I had to settle for pretending to be everyday.

"Hilarious... You ready to go? I'm not exactly in the mood for a scorning from Gianna," I paused to roll my eyes, "she's being more temperamental than ever these days."

Britney laughs, letting the sound echo throughout the empty house as we rush down the stairs. Most would refer their houses as to homes, but how could I when the rare times I was actually home, no one else was.

"Or maybe... you're just becoming less tolerancing. Wait, what am I saying? You can barely go five minutes without making a sarcastic remark." She smirks at me as she dodges my swatting hands. We jump into her Mercedes Benz Convertible. Cranking the music louder, I close my eyes, letting the wind's soft blows wisp my blonde strands all over. My thoughts veer to every direction, leaving none to stray on expect one leeching thought; Why I was still alive. This quickly led to all the ways I could end it right now. Would anyone care? Would my parents even have the fleeting thought of missing work to attend my funeral? No, they probably wouldn't. Why am I sti- a blaring honk adjourns my thoughts, making my eyes snap open. A car pulls beside Britney's, showcasing a group of high-school boys. They each take their turns letting their prying eyes roam the two of us, before looking at one another and letting out stimulus wolf whistles. We watch them speed off before we both double over in laughter.

"Pigs. Every boy we counter in this era is a pig!" I couldn't help but agree with her.

"They weren't looking at you. Who would? They only thought of how pretty Britney is, and probably only had pitiful thoughts for you. No one will ever love or even notice you."

I know.
