It all started on Christmas last year when my parents didn't have enough money to get any gifts. Then it all went down hill, my dad started drinking and then he went and got himself killed in a DUI crash. My mom was so grief stricken, she went crazy. Now she is in a mental hospital, leaving my little  sister and I  to fend for our selves in the foster system. No one will want to adopt a depressed 15 year old and her little sister. We bounced around from house to house until my sister and I were separated, now I'm alone. This brings me to where I am right now, alone, depressed, and practically parentless. I don't know where my sister is, she could be anywhere in the US by now, so I'm planning on running away. I turn 18 in two weeks so I just have to wait, after I'm 18 I can get a good job and maybe an apartment. The next two weeks pass like months, but its finally here, my birthday, the 27 of December, yeah I know two days after Christmas, it kinda sucks but I'll deal.

My plan is to take some money from my foster "mom" ( though I would never call her that I would just call her Bethany) and sneak out at midnight. Then I'll go to the bus stop two blocks away and take the bus to New York City. I know your probably thinking everyone runs to New York in all the stories, I'm only going there because it's the farthest I can get on the bus and still have money to eat and find a job. anyway after I get there I will get to work looking for a job and an apartment.

As I lay on my bed waiting for the time to pass, thoughts cross my mind, what am I doing? is this really what I want? am I sure ill be able to live? I push those thoughts out of my mind and start packing, I don't want to take too much but I want to take enough to get by for at least a month. I end up taking my two pairs of jeans, 6 t-shirts, of course underwear. I also take my wallet, my glasses and contacts, some toiletries, and of course my iPod and earbuds because I cant do anything without music. oh yeah, I also have to take my guitar, that's how I'm planning on earning money if all else fails.

As I finish packing I check my watch and see that it is exactly midnight. "Well looks like its time to go", I whisper quietly to myself as I sneak out my window into the night. As I jog down the street I think to my self again, do I really want to do this? I stop running and, standing there in the middle of the night out in the dark, start to cry.

Standing there crying I hear something. I stop crying, eyes watery and puffy, and look around. I catch someone dash into an alley in the corner of my eye. I take off sprinting after who or whatever it was, leaving my bags and guitar there. As I turn the corner into the alley I see someone, with dark messy hair, trying to jump the fence. "Stop!" I shout, I am surprised to see them actually stop and turn around. I can clearly see that it is a boy. He looks about my age, with messy black hair, eyes that seem to be a blueish greenish color, though I cant really see because it is so dark. he is wearing a faded orange t-shirt under a blue jacket that doesn't look warm enough for the middle of the night in December in Maine. we stand there in an awkward silence for at least 30 seconds until he finally speaks.

"Are you going to say why you stopped me or are we just going to stand here all night?", he asks.

"Oh um sorry", I stutter, "I just wanted to know why your running, and why your out so late?"

"Well", he starts, " I was running because I left my friends over there", he gestures to the fence, "and I'm out so late because..., well if I told you you'd think I'm crazy."

"Oh come on, I've had my fair share of crazies." I argued.

" Alright, but don't say I didn't warn you........, I... I was following you,"

"WHAT!" I yell a little too loud

"Shhh, be quiet, someone will hear you," he hissed.

"Well, why are you following me!?" I whisper yell

" I was sent by my trainer to get you,"

" Your... trainer..?"

" Yes my trainer now come on before something comes, we've been here too long"

And with that he grabs my hand and takes off back the way I came. We run all the way to the forest about half a mile away. by the time we hit the trees I have to stop and breathe. Just as I catch my breath he takes off again pulling me behind.

" Just a little further," he says.

After running for what seems like an eternity, we emerge into a clearing with a tent. He leads me into the tent, inside there are two cots, a space heater, and somehow, a hot chocolate maker. I don't know how they are plugged in, but they are, because sitting on each of the cots, drinking hot chocolate, is a person. One is a girl with long curly blonde hair up in a ponytail, and stormy grey eyes that I find kind of scary. The other is a smallish boy with hair darker black than the other boy (I really need to learn his name) and pale skin with a light green tint, he looks seriously sick.

"Why did you drag me all the way here!" I shout, I'm not afraid of anyone hearing me now, " that was at least a mile and a half."

And with that I blacked out.
