Hyoyeon kept on laughing at how stupid she was for falling down like that. She was about to stop when she heard him.
"I love you."
"What?" She asked on a whim though she had heard him clearly. Her expression turned serious as she looked at him. Luhan on the other hand seemed calm and the same smile was still there on his lips.
"I love you." He extended his hand to move a wet strand of hair that was sticking on to her face covering her eyes. "My heart goes dugun dugun for you and that means I love you, right?"
Hyoyeon stared into his eyes to deduce whether he was joking or not. Soon she realized that he was not joking.
"I love you too." She replied smiling.
The truth was, her heart was being an ass and going 'dugun dugun' every other second that day. After several failed attempts of stopping her heart, she gave up and let the heart do what it wanted. It was not going to listen to her anyway. She knew what it meant but decided to ignore it because she thought Luhan didn't feel the same way for her but at an unexpected turn of events, he confessed.
Luhan smiled. He held her face with the hand he used to tuck her strand and leaned in. She realized he was about to kiss her and leaned back stopping him by keeping a hand on his chest.
"You have a girl friend Luhan." She pointed out.
"Ahhh, Yeun." Luhan remembered nodding. "I'll talk to her first thing in the morning."
"This can wait till tomorrow then." She smiled and Luhan agreed by nodding.
The two stood up and walked towards the exit. Luhan offered to walk Hyoyeon to her apartment before going to his house. On their way back, Sehun saw the two. He understood their relation when he saw their locked hands.
"You are doing a big mistake Luhan." Sehun said to himself.

Luhan arrived the school early and Yeun had also reached early according to the message he had sent her the other night.
"Yeun-ah!" Luhan called from one end of the corridor seeing the girl who was standing by her locker. She waved smiling as he walked to her side.
Though the news he had for her was not very pleasant, Luhan knew she would understand. They knew each other since they were children and he knew very well that they only started going out because of their parents and that there was no feelings involved.
Luhan had almost reached Yeun's side when Sehun entered from the side and stood in between them.
"Luhan, I have something to talk to you about." He said with a serious face.
"Uhh.." Luhan looked at Sehun then at Yeun, who looked confused, and then back at Sehun. "Can't this wait?" He asked.
Sehun shook his head. "No, I've to talk right now." He said grabbing Luhan's hand and turning around to apologize to Yeun. "Sorry, I've to borrow him for a moment."
Luhan quickly said his bye and followed Sehun. They exited the building and walked to the basketball court. Sehun abruptly stopped on his steps upon seeing something making Luhan stop walking. Luhan followed Sehun's eyes and saw the girl sitting on the muddy ground in a crouched position. Upon squinting his eyes, Luhan recognized he girl. It was Hyoyeon who had also came early to the school as Luhan asked her. He wanted to see her right after he was done talking to Yeun. Since they all were early, the school was almost deserted.
Hyoyeon was crouching down patting a stray puppy. The puppy was wagging its tail enjoying the care. It hoisted itself up by supporting itself on Hyoyeon's leg and licked her face. The girl laughed and fell back on her butt and the dog jumped on top of her and continued licking her all over as she giggled.
Luhan smiled at this heartwarming sight and then turned to Sehun only to see the guy frowning.
Sehun scoffed at the sight in front of him and turned to Luhan. "You were going to break up with Yeun, weren't you?"
Luhan for a moment wondered how his friend knew but was not curious enough to ask. "Yes. I realized I like Hyoyeon so I've to break up with Yeun.."
"Are you stupid Luhan?!" Sehun interjected.
"What?"
"Look at her and look at you! We don't mingle with the likes of her." Sehun growled. His last sentence tripped something in Luhan and before he knew it, he was grabbing a fistful of his friend's shirt glaring into the other's eyes. In his 9 years of friendship with Luhan, Sehun had never seen the other lose his temper like that.
"Don't talk like that about her." Luhan gritted his teeth.
"Luhan."
Hearing a female voice, Sehun and Luhan turned to the source and Luhan's expression immediately softened upon seeing the girl. He let go of Sehun and turned to face her.
"He is right." Hyoyeon smiled and even if no one could see the hurt in her eyes, Luhan saw it. She took a step closer to the guys. "Look at yourself" she made a small pause "and look at me." She looked at her muddy shoes and shifted on her leg before looking up. "Day and night."
"Hyoyeon, I didn't" Sehun spoke but she held up her hand gesturing him to stop, her eyes still locked with Luhan's who seemed equally hurt.
"You said nothing wrong. I don't belong with Luhan. That is the truth."
"Don't you dare look down on yourself Hyo." Luhan's eyes gleamed of the hurt he was feeling then.
Hyoyeon chuckled lightly before shaking her head. "Never. I'm not looking down on myself Luhan. I'm just saying the truth." She said in as a matter of fact way. "We're simply different. Your friends, status, family, wealth, it's all different from mine. It's like we are in the same place but in two different worlds."
"It doesn't matter Hyo." Luhan said in a low voice.
Hyoyeon took a deep breath. "It does Luhan. Your world is so perfect right now but once you enter my world, things won't be the same. Your friends and family will not be able to accept someone like me. We are simply too different from one another." Luhan opened his mouth to say something but Hyoyeon didn't let him say anything as she continued. "For now, you might feel that it wouldn't matter. Even if your friends and family are against it, it wouldn't matter, you'll manage it. You are probably thinking like that but think about it this way, what if your parents say that they will stop supporting you financially? Will you able to pay your tuition fees? What about your accommodation and food? Have you ever thought how you will manage these things? For someone whose needs were catered without any effort or delay, do you think it is possible to work part time to pay for your tuition fees, rent, food bills and other bills? Even if you manage all this, will you be able to maintain a happy relation with me at the same time?" Hyoyeon smiled bitterly. "It is easy to say it doesn't matter but once you starve, once you have to work till the wee hours to meet the ends of your life, once your world becomes not so perfect, you'll realize that love is not enough to keep you motivated to live an imperfect life when you've always lived a perfect one."
Luhan fell silent. Truthfully, he never thought about this in such detail. He never thought about his friends and family going against it or how he would handle it. With Hyoyeon, everything he did was on a whim without thinking about the consequences but now that Hyoyeon had given him a dose of the reality, he knew he had to think about.
Hyoyeon noticed Luhan's silence. Though she was hurting, deep inside, she knew she did the right thing. He had every right to know what he was getting into.
"It was nice knowing you Luhan but I think it is time for us to part ways." She turned and walked away.
Luhan wanted to call her, stop her and tell her he loved her and that it didn't matter even if the whole world is against them but he felt weak. Reality was holding him back.
