Regret envelopes my every inch,
Unrelenting, she claws at my heart.

Tears have become just another part of my body,
My cheeks stained in their wake.

In the haunting stillness of night,
My deepest feelings project on the back of my mind.

I see the glorious, firey colours of his feathers,
A phoenix perched on a lonesome branch.

Flames consume his majestic figure,
And reduce all that he is to ash.

I watch as a creature emerges from the ashes,
Young. Beautiful.

I am witnessing rebirth,
The product of fiery rebellion.

I watch from the safe distance of my mind's eye,
But I can't stop myself from longing for the same.

I yearn, not for any one thing,
But for nothing.

For it all to be stripped away, burnt,
For all the guilt, the shame to disintegrate.

I am on my knees,
My heart at the alter.

Consume me, Holy fire, I pray,
Wash me clean.

And in surrender, I know,
I am a new creation.
