I lose myself once I'm at home with my book, my Jack and his adventures. He's great at everything he tries and is so popular with everyone. I suppose you say he gets all the girls but he always says he's in love with just one.
"Why aren't guys like you." I whisper to myself.
Someone softly knocked on my door.
"Enter."
It was my small mother, holding a steaming cup and looking like she needed sleep.
"I made you some tea." She smiled and handed me the cup, it was Earl Grey with honey and some cream. I took a sip and set it on my night stand.
"Still in love with Jack are you?" My mother sarcastically asked and sat on my bed.
"Yes, he's perfect in every way." I sarcastically sneered, but what I said wasn't wrong.
"Maybe you should get a real boyfriend instead of a make believe one." She leaned back on my bed, she works so hard. I could see the grey starting to streak her hair, she's usually dyed it before it got this bad.
"Boys are gross." Sipping more tea.
She laughed. "Just keep thinking that." She got up and walked out of my room, closing the door behind her.
---the next day
I yawned and looked around at the chattering people around me, class hasn't started so the whole room was chaos.
"Thank you Amy." Ryan slammed his books on the desk next to me, waking me up from my daze.
"Huh?" I turned my head, my hand over my mouth to catch an oncoming yawn.
"Thanks to you, everyone thinks I'm dating your friend Roy." He gestured to the group of girls who were giggling at him.
"You two make a cute couple." Half smiling at him, which made him angrier.
"From what I saw he rather likes girls." Looking at me up and down, which made me scowl at him.
"How do you know he just fake flirts at me to hide his homosexuality?" Batting my eyes at him.
"You are so full of it." Turning his attention to the front.
"You're the one hanging out with those idiots." Glaring at the girls who I know were eavesdropping, they all turned away when I looked.
"They attacked me, I was being nice. I hate people like that." He mumbled, resting his head on his arms.
"Well we have an understanding." Looking at him right before the teacher walked into the room, starting class.
I was scribbling on my paper, not really paying attention to what was happening. I started drawing on the lined paper. First just some loops and lines but finally they connected to make a tree. I started drawing a very detailed eye, almost finished coloring the lines of the iris when a piece of paper fell on my desk. It startled me enough to make me jump a little, thankfully no one really noticed. Everyone was just as bored as I was. I unfolded the piece of paper and began reading.
Sorry
I started writing my response.
It's fine. I threw the paper back at Ryan who caught it in his right hand. After a moment he threw it back.
Do you mind if we have lunch again?
Sure.
We all packed up our stuff and ran out the door when the bell rang. I caught a glimpse of Ryan but he was hurrying in the opposite direction.
----
Roy was playing with his phone when I walked into 5th period. He looked up with that cute smile of his and patted the seat next to him. He was sitting on a brown couch in the corner of the room next to the teachers desk. I took out my sketchbook which already had some simple doodles in them, most of them out of boredom.
"You're so beautiful today, may I draw you?" Roy had his sketchbook on his lap and titled his head to the side like a little puppy.
I patted his cheek. "No" I smiled at him and turned toward the board. The teacher had a prompt on the board for a warm up drawing and the both of us started sketching. I finished before Roy so I looked over his shoulder. The prompt was a contour drawing of a glass on the middle table. Roy was very good at art and his glass contour looked beautiful.
"Roy." Setting my chin on his shoulder so he knew I wanted his attention.
"I know you're done but I want this drawing to be good." Roy didn't look up from his sketchbook and was finishing up some minor details.
"I was wondering, if that new kid could come to lunch with us." He set his pencil down and turned his head just enough so he could meet my eye. My head was still on his shoulder.
"That gay boy? Well I do say Amy, I didn't expect you to be feeling sorry for him." He laughed and his shoulders bumped my chin as he did.
"He's not gay, I think. He asked if he could come with us." I raised my head so he would bruise my face and rested back on the comfy sofa.
"Well I don't want to compete with another for your affection." He half smiled and his eyes were sparkling. "But if you insist." We continued to draw until the bell rang.
----
Melody drove this time, which scares me because she hardly ever looks at signs until the last possible moment. I was in the front so our lovely gay couple awkwardly sat together in the back of her silver bug.
"Where to, boys" She looked behind her to Ryan and Roy, the swerved in front of a black truck, they honked at us.
"Melody, eyes on the road, please..." She nodded and came to a turn lane.
"There's a good pizza place down the road." Ryan awkwardly spoke up, Roy gave him a sideways glance.
"Pizza sounds good." I spoke before Roy could make a comment. Melody was smiling but didn't say anything, she was usually quiet while driving. It was the only time she was ever quiet.
We parked at the pizza place Ryan mentioned, I pulled my seat forward to let Ryan out and Melody helped Roy.
Roy ran up to the door and opened it for Melody and I, bowing a little when we went through. He's very dramatic. Ryan had to catch the door when Roy went in after us.
We all sat at a booth, Ryan got to the table first and glared at Roy when he tried to sit next to him. So he sat with Melody and I slid in next to Ryan. We ordered a medium cheese and waited impatiently as it was being made. Melody and Roy talked to themselves, about the new classes and art and all that sort of thing. Ryan just remained quiet and I was daydreaming about pizza.
Somehow the two got on the subject of Lord of the Rings and how amazing it was, I perked up to help discuss and Ryan's eyes got a little brighter and talked with us as well. We talked for a good twenty minutes until the cheese pizza arrived and we devoured it like starved animals. After we were done we all payed and rushed out the door.
"Well if he likes LOTR then he can't be all bad." Roy said before we got to the car. I agreed with him. I think Ryan could fit in well with us.
