Chapter 4

Grace tiptoes up to the attic, the one at the CBI, but just as she reaches the door Jane opens it.

"Make it quick Grace I'm thinking."

He looked awful, sure he shut himself up here ever since Lisbon was poisoned, and the only time anyone ever saw him was when he left to go to the hospital; but she never thought he would end up like this. He's unshaven and he looks like he hasn't slept in days, his clothes were rumpled and he looked irritated. Grace decided to cut to the chase.

"Boss woke up...but she doesn't remember anything aside from her name."

His expression didn't change.

"I-I just though you should be the first to know. But um..I should go tell the others."

She turns to leave when he finally talks.

"I won't go. I'm staying here."

'He's doing his best to protect you. He locks himself away a lot and is always bent on revenge. He's blaming himself for almost losing you. He keeps beating himself up about this.'

'He sounds pathetic. If he cares so much then why isn't he here now?'

She suddenly gets angry and looks back at him. Her words are dripping with venom.

"I told her what you've been doing and she's right. You're pathetic. She should be dead. But she isn't and all you can do is lock yourself away? Forget you, I'm out of here."

She turns to leave and hears the door slam shut. Before she reaches the stairs Jane grabs her wrist. The two of them freeze, Grace doesn't look back at him but he doesn't let go.

"I'm not pathetic."

"Prove it, go see her, try to get her back."

She can hear him suck in a breath and his grip on her slightly loosens. She talks again.

"She needs you Jane. At least try to talk to her, you don't have to go all out just try."

There's a long pause but eventually he lets go of her wrist.

"Alright."
