Chapter 5

I wake to the rattling of bars. "Get up." a deep authoritative voice says. I groan and roll over. "Five more minutes." I mumble. I hear a snickering in the background. "Told you she's hard to wake up." I think Kris says it. "Shut up." Someone snaps coldly "Calm down Jay." Okay so what I can infer is that the one who is being mean is Jay and the authoritative one is most likely the Alpha. "Come on Jayd. Get up, they might go easy on you if you listen." Xenia reasons. "Well, good morning to you too." I think back. "Jayd." Xenia says in a warning tone "Fine." I respond. I slowly open my eyes and see Jay, Kris, Alec, Levi, and some random guy I haven't met yet, I'm guessing is the Alpha. He too looks around seventeen "Hi. Is breakfast ready?" I say groggily. Wow all that running really tired me out. "Get up." The dude I haven't met yet says. "Yeah, yeah." I mumble and stand up and use the wall for support. "I'm the Alpha, my name is Niko." The Alpha says kindly. Wow someone who's actually treating me like a person! Kris starts laughing "You said that out loud." Really? "Yes, really." Niko responds. "Well that's embarrassing." Xenia says. "I thought that went away?" Kris laughs "Apparently not." I respond. For some unknown reason whenever I'm tired I almost always say what I'm thinking it's weird and very annoying. Got me into tons of fist fights. "Follow me." Niko says. We follow him and walk into the pack house. It's very nice. When you first walks into the door you see a nice open sort of family room with a staircase near the left side and past that is where a group of teenage boys are sitting in front of a fireplace playing cards, and there's a hallway back next to the fireplace leading to unknown places. To the right is a nice looking bar/island/kitchen place. We head up the stairs and turn right and start walking. As I'm walking I see many people but all of them are teenage boys. Where are all the girls, and mothers and fathers or younger ones? Why are they all in their teens? After a little while of walking we end up in the Alpha's office. "Levi, Alec please leave us." They bow their heads and leave. "Please sit." Niko kindly smiles at us. We sit in some nearby chairs while Jay stands near the back. "I'm sorry if this seems annoying," "Yeah pretty much." I cut him off. That earns me a slap on the arm from Kris. "Sorry. Continue." I apologize. "As I was saying, I know this is annoying but we need to know a little about you to see if you're a threat or not." Niko says. "We understand sir." Kris say. "Just don't be surprised if we don't answer the questions the way you want." I smirk. This also earns me a hit from Kris. "What she means is we have a touchy past." Kris glares at me. "Yea, yeah whatever." I mumble. "So let's start off easy, what are your names?" Niko asks "My name is Kris Reid." Kris says "I'm Reign Neomak." I say. "Where are you from?" Niko asks. Kris and I share a look. We actually have no idea where we are from. We never were told where our old pack house was. Not even the state. For "safety" reasons. "We don't know." Kris says. "How can you not know?" Jay asks rudely. I turn around in my chair and glare at him. "Well maybe they never told us. Ever think of that?" I snarl. Kris nudges me. I turn back around and slouch in my chair. I don't like him. He's rude. Who does he think he is just judging us like he understands what we've been through?! Back at our old pack we never went to school. They just taught us how to read, write, and basic math, plus a few other things we'd need to know. That was it. So, we are pretty stupid for our age. But that doesn't give him the right to judge us! I'm so close to picking a fight with him. "I don't know. I think he's attractive, in a I-hate-you kind of way." Xenia says "You're crazy." I respond "Probably. I'm still trying to heal and get back to my full power but it's taking some time." Xenia says. "Oh yea! Speaking of that, is the reason Kris and I didn't get affected by the silver because of what I am? Or we are?" I ask Xenia "Yes. We don't get affected by the same amount of silver that would kill a normal werewolf, or harm them. It takes a whole bunch, at least three times as much to kill a werewolf to even give us a second degree burn." Xenia says. "Wow." Is all I can say. We are powerful, it's so weird, back at our old pack we never had any power we just did what they told us to. "Just, I'm not sure what Christina is. She didn't get affected but she doesn't smell like an Ultimate." Xenia says "We have a smell?" I ask "Yes, but only other Ultimates can smell it." Xenia says "Does that sound good to you guys?" Niko asks "That's not ok with me! What the heck Niko!" Jay yells at him "Calm down Jay they need a place to stay. Not everything is about you." Niko reasons. Jay walks out of the room and slams the door. Wait, what? How long was I talking to Xenia for? What'd he say? "Wha?" I ask really confused "You weren't paying attention were you?" Niko asks "Nope!" I say "Can you repeat it?" Niko gives me an annoyed look. "Seriously?" He sighs "What I said was you can stay here until you feel comfortable and trust us enough to explain your past. Then we will decide whether to let you leave, let you stay, or kill you." Niko explains. "Ok, sounds good to me, except the possibility of death." I say as Kris nods in agreement. I just don't think I'll ever want to talk about my past. "Levi, Alec!" Niko says. Levi and Alec enter eating sandwiches. "Aw! I want one." I whine and pout. Kris smacks me again. "Stop slapping me woman!" I growl at her. "I will once you start being nice and polite!" Kris responds. I glare at her. Alec and Levi find this hilarious and start laughing. Oh they think this is funny! Just wait I'll steal both of their sandwiches, then who'd be laughing! Me! "Wow Jayd so bad!" Xenia mocks me. "Shut up." I growl at her. "Alec, Levi, can you please show them to a guest room. Thank you." Niko says. Kris and I stand up and follow them out of the room. "Can we get sandwiches?" I ask. "I don't know, we were only told to bring you to a guest room." Levi says. "But I guess it's ok." Alec says smiling. "Alec, we should ask Niko first." Levi says. "Dude we got two hungry, starving damsels in distress! It is our duty to get them food!" Alec says dramatically. I give Kris a look and we both slowly back away as Levi and Alec keep arguing. We walk down some stairs and search for the kitchen. "Found it." Kris says. I follow her through a swinging door and into the kitchen. It's a nice kitchen. There's an island in the middle with some bar stools and the fridge inside the wall off to the right side. The sink is on the left next to the dishwasher and many cupboards. I walk over to the cupboards and look for two plates. We haven't eaten in days, it's probably been a week since we ran away, well more like escaped. I pull out the plates and set them on the island as Kris sets all the ingredients to make a sandwich next to them. "Alright, Da Vinci." Kris says. I smile, "Yes Van Gogh?" I say. "Time to paint a masterpiece!" Kris says dramatically. We laugh at our stupidity and make our masterpiece sandwiches. We always call each other Da Vinci and Van Gogh whenever we make food, we are master painters when it comes to making food. Just a little light humor back in our pit full of hatred.
