Things I Wish I'd Known Before Falling Asleep Last Night

Beds are more than just a place to sleep,

and nothing can outrun time, not even

the sandglass lodged in your mother's throat.

Eating less won't make your sister thinner,
only weaker.

Most nights the moon doesn't shine,

but the sun will always rise.

Someday, when fathers realise that the world is unkind to women,

they'll raise wolves instead of lambs

because being a woman doesn't mean

you have to aspire to be a mother.

Like your lover, horizons kiss but never touch.

Isn't it funny that marriage has nothing to do with love?

Success only tastes nice when you've swallowed failure's fire

twice, and now your blood is just another shade of chaos.

Colouring the sky with wishes won't make constellations appear.

Just like sleeping all day won't make your childhood reappear.

God exists only if you decide he does.

Perhaps heaven isn't someplace above.

And, no, the world is never truly quiet

so you shouldn't stay quiet either

because even the sea speaks when the shells stop listening.
