So it starts like this.

In this world humans and werewolves exist but humans do not know about them for the obvious reasons.

Werewolves look like humans, they are half human and half wolf. They can literally change into a wolf (usually larger than average wolves). The werewolf change is usually like puberty; the writer decides when it happens. Most often I read about boys changing first and then two years later girls do (I don't know why). Werewolfism is a genetic thing; you have to have at least one parent be a werewolf to turn into one.

What is most commonly found throughout these books is that the human and their wolf counterpart are separate. Like another conscience in their head with different ideas, like the beast within. The wolf is usually the same gender as the person (sexuality differs between books).

Sometimes in stories we read about "I could see his wolf coming out", usually that just means that the conscience of the wolf is being brought forward while the human conscience is pushed back (like a switch personality but the human knows it is happening sometimes they can't control it from happening). Most of the time it's an eye color change that is noticeable.

Werewolves are usually in shape and not being in shape means something is wrong with you. They have higher metabolisms and have a great immune system. They heal faster than humans but are still at risk of some harm.
