She just stood in her flat, motionless, looking out at the street that has caused her so much pain, but can't walk away from.
Tears fell down her face as she thought last nights betrayal. She couldn't deal with it. The guilt was eating her alive. She hadn't seen Nick since yesterday morning, wishing him a happy birthday with a kiss and making her way to work. That's when it all went wrong. Johnny told her he'd took her DNA, Michelle was telling her how to cope, Aidan and Kate asking her questions, and Nick was trying to help her. She didn't want anyone's help. She wanted to hit the self destruct button, and that's exactly what she did.

Carla didn't hear the door open, nor did she hear Nick calling her name. She realised he was there when his hands were on her shoulders, making her jump and turn around. When she saw him she broke a bit more inside. She had it all, the best man, for once, she had the good guy. She could of been happy. And she ruined it. All because she couldn't accept the help she realised she really really needed.

His heart broke at the sight of her. What had happened? Where's she been? Confused, he looked at her. Grabbing her hands.
"Carla? What's happened?" Nick asked.
Nothing.
"You ok?"
Nothing.
"Carla?"
Nothing.
"Talk to me, Carla"
And then, her words changed everything.
"I slept with Robert."
He stood still, frozen, his heart in his stomach. His face as pale as a ghost. He backed away from her.
"What?" Was all he could say.
"I slept with Robert." She said again, and this time she broke down. He wanted to hug her. Tell her everything is ok. But he can't. He can't even look at her at the moment.
"Get out" he said, and she looked up.
"What?" She asked, her heart breaking a little more.
"You heard me, Carla." Nick said, and she walked up to him.
"Nick please, you asked me to talk and I am. I'm ready."
"You're ready!? You slept with the man that is planning our wedding menus and your 'ready for to talk'! Get out!" Nick shouted.
Nick-"Carla said, and she went to grab his hands and he moved her away. Knocking her a bit to the side. That's when it happened.
He didn't mean for her to fall.
He went to catch her. But he missed.
And before his eyes, Carla's head whacked against the corner of the coffee table they brought together, and she hit the floor.
He stood there, looking at the blood that was leaking out of her head. He didn't know someone so small could have so much blood. But he was wrong. He knelt down next to her and felt for a pulse. He couldn't find one, he then panicked. He stood up and ran to his phone, or her phone, he wasn't sure. He would ring Michelle. She will know what to do, as he looked at the phone, he saw he had blood on his hands, and a lot of it. He then rang Michelle.
"Hello?" Michelle said on the other end.
"Michelle, it's Nick I need you to come to the flat. Now." Nick said, his voice cracking.
"Why? Is everything okay?" Michelle said worriedly.
"No. I need you to come. I think she's dead." Nick said, walking towards Carla's unmoved body.
"Who's dead?" Michelle said, already half way there.
"Carla. I think she's dead."
And with that Michelle lost her breathe and ran faster than she's ever ran before.

Michelle ran into the flats and banged on the door, non stop until Nick answered, and she went right past him, and saw Carla's body, blood everywhere. She bent down and held her in her arms, tears leaving Michelle's eyes.
"What happened?" Michelle cried looking at Nick.
"I- she hit her head" Nick said, still in shock.
"Have you rang an ambulance?" Michelle asked, Nick shook his head. Michelle's eyes widened.
"Why not!?" She shouted.
"She has no pulse, there's no point." Nick said sadly. Michelle's heart broke a bit more. Michelle got her phone out and rang 999, and asked for an ambulance. She then looked at Carla, at the blood leaving her head, and all the blood on the floor. And there was a lot of it.
Nick just stood at the door, looking at his fiancée as she bled to death in Michelle's arms. And it was his fault. He pushed her away. He didn't mean for her to fall. But she did. The love of his life could die and it would be his fault.
Nick was brought out of his thoughts when a few doctors barged past him, nearly knocking him over so they could get to Carla.
He didn't know he was holding his breath until he let out a big sigh of relief when the doctor said they had found a pulse, it was a very very weak one but it was there.
Carla was put on a stretcher and carried out the flat, Nick and Michelle followed and as they got out of the flats, they had quite the audience, from Norris to Amy, the whole street was out, looking at the scene taking place. Nick heard many people talking, speaking their ideas. Such as,
"Look at Nicks hands; £5 says he pushed her over"
"I bet she drank herself to death."
"Is she even dead?"

Nick got into the ambulance along with Michelle and they drove to weather-field General. Nick grabbed Carla's hand and brought it to his lips and kissed it softly. Praying for her to be ok. Hoping for her to hold on. He looked at Michelle who's eyes were stuck on Carla, who had a tube in her throat. All that could be heard were the sounds of her very slow and weak heartbeat from the monitor.
"So what happened?" Michelle spoke, looking up a Nick.
"She told me something, and we argued, and I went to move her hands of me and she lost her footing and fell, she whacked her head of the coffee table and well, you know the rest." Nick said and looked back at Carla.
"So you pushed her?" Michelle said, venom in voice.
"Not hard. I went to catch her. I missed her by one second." Nick said, shaking his head, tears leaving his eyes.
"So this is your fault?!" Michelle shouted, grabbing the attention of the Doctors.
"What? No!" Nick shouted back defensively before continuing, "I nudged her a bit and she lost her footing!" He said.
"If she doesn't make it, I will make your life a living hell." Michelle said, her eyes burning into Nicks angrily.
"You won't need too. I already feel bad as it is. You can't make it any worse" Nick said, and looked back down at Carla.

Once they arrived at the hospital, Carla was rushed though, more doctors came towards her as the nurse shouted,
"Carla Connor, aged 40, extreme loss of blood to the head due to a fall. Possible brain damage and or memory loss due to the weakness of her heart rate." They rushed her into a room and Nick and Michelle were told to stay outside.

An hour passed and Nick began to pace the waiting room. Michelle was sat down staring at nothing in particular, tears continuing to fall down her face. Her head only turned to the side when she heard her name being called by Steve as he ran towards her with his arms open for her to fall into. Michelle got up and landed in his arms and cried, Steve put his hands on the back of her head in an attempt to calm her. She just cried harder.

After what felt like a life time, a doctor finally came out.
"Family of Carla Connor?" The doctor said, and he didn't expect half the waiting room to stand up. There was, Nick, Michelle, Steve, Liz, and Johnny, Kate and Aidan, Liz had rang them.
"Well, we managed to stop the bleeding on her brain, but she remains in a coma. There isn't really anything else we can do." The doctor said, he then added, "but, if she does wake up, there's a very high chance of severe brain damage or memory loss. It's a case of fate now, you many see her when the nurses are done." And he waked away. Leaving a distort family to deal with this news.
"This can't be happening." Michelle said, her voice breaking.
"Come on, we should get you home." Steve said, and Michelle shook her head.
"No, you all go, I'll be fine with Nick. I'll see you tomorrow." Michelle said, and Steve nodded, giving her a quick kiss before walking out with the rest of the Connor and McDonald clan.
"I'm sorry about before. In the ambulance. What I said, it was out of order." Michelle said, looking down.
"No, it wasn't. You were right. It is my fault. If I hadn't of pushed her away, then non of this would of happened. She wouldn't be in a coma fighting for her life." Nick said as tears fell from his eyes, and Michelle grabbed his hand.
"If there's one thing Carla's good at its surviving. Trust me, she'll come though it." Michelle smiled, and as Nick went to say something, a nurse came out her room.
"You can see her now." Then Michelle and Nick walked in.
