A couple days later, when I walked downstairs, I saw my brother sitting at the marble table crying. I rushed over to him and asked what was wrong. He looked up at me with bloodshot eyes from crying so hard. Then, he just hugged me tightly and cried some more.
"Whats wrong with you?" I asked. "Are you ok?"
He shook his head.
" I-I got a call earlier...." He said between sobs.
"So..?" I asked. He was starting to really worry me.
"It was from the hospital. About the appointment." He said calming down a little bit.
"And...?" I was starting to get a little bit annoyed.
" They um... Got some results.... and.... well, they figured out that you have cancer...." He started crying again.
I just stood there in shock. Cancer? How could that be? My eyes started to tear up. I couldn't believe this.
" Claire, you have leukemia" He said quietly. " I already told mom and dad. Mom is going to catch the next flight home."
I shook my head. "No she isn't. She is going to stay there and enjoy the rest of her time there with her sirens. Its not like I'm going to die In the next few days.." I said. I didn't want my mom to have to go through this.
" Claire, yes she is. She already bought the ticket. She will be home tomorrow morning." Then, my brother stood up and silently went to his room.
I just stood there. I didn't want to do anything. I just wanted to go hide in a hole forever. Eventually, my brother came back downstairs to bring me to the hospital to talk with a doctor about my options.
