Josh POV
My brother and I are playing a game of pool at the pool hall down the road from our place. I pick up the cue and hit a small ball, and it goes into the hole. "I'm smalls." I hit the ball again, but it misses the hall.
Logan centres himself at the table and hits the white ball. The ball misses the big balls and stops in the middle of the table.
I give my cue to Robbie.
Robbie takes it from me, and he hits the white on. It hits the small ball, and it goes into the hall. Robbie takes two more turns as he gets the ball into the hole.
Brent looks at me. "I'm going to the bar. Do you want anything?"
I shake my head. "I can't drink anything today. I'm on call. If my phone rings, I must go straight to the hospital."
The other orders drinks.
I look at Logan. "Next time we come here, we should invite Mikayla."
Logan laughs. "Can you imagine that girl in this place?"
Robbie shakes his head. "I can't. What do you think of her, Josh?"
I don't know how I feel about having my sister back in my life. It will take some time to get used to her, but I'm happy to see the light back in Robbie's eyes.
I sigh. "I don't know. She seems like a great woman. I want to get to know my little sister. We should organise a barbecue or something over the upcoming weeks.
Robbie nods. "That sounds like a plan.
My phone goes off. I look at the number and answer it when 'work' flashes across the screen.
I have to go to work.
Me: Hello, this is Joshua Lambert.
Nurse: It's Nurse Lana. I'm calling because we need you to come in. A female has been rushed to surgery for internal bleeding and a knock to the head from a car accident.
Me: I'll be there in ten minutes.
I hang up the phone and look at my brothers. "I need to go to work. How about we meet tomorrow for another game?"
I grab my jacket and keys off the table.
As I walk out the door, I see Logan answer his phone. I open the door to the pool hall and exit the building.
I climb into my car and pull out of the parking lot, heading towards the hospital.
On the freeway, my phone rings. I answer it using my hands-free device.
Me: Hello, Joshua Lambert?
Voice: Mikayla's in the hospital, Bro. I'm taking the boys with me.
We just got her back in our lives. We can't lose her.
Me: I'm not allowed in the OR if I know the person.
Logan: I don't give a shit, Josh. You do everything you can for her.
Me: I'll do my best.
"YOU BETTER," Robbie yells.
I hang up.
I park my car and run into the hospital. I enter the change room and put on a pair of scrubs. Nurse Lana greets me as I exit the room. "Hello, Doctor Lambert. Doctor Charleston wants me to show you to the OR."
She leads me to the room.
I scrub my hands at the sink just outside the OR. I look into the room and see my sister lying on the bed.
You can do this.
I enter the room and move toward the table. I look at my sister, who's under local anaesthetic, and she looks peaceful.
"Good afternoon, Doctor Charleston. Where do you need me?"
"I need you to help me stop the bleeding."
I moved to the other side of the table.

After five minutes, the bleeding stops. Doctor Charleston pulls out a blood bag and hooks it on the stand.
I set up my sister and wheeled her out of the OR. I then took her to a private room away from other patients.
Doctor Charleston looks at Mikayla and then at me. "Are you two related?"
I nod. "She's my sister."
He shook his head. "I should report you for being in the same room as her. But you helped me in there. You didn't lose your head. This will stay between us. Do you want to tell the family or do you want me to?"
I look at my sister. "You can tell them. I'll sit with my sister for a bit."
Doctor Charleston leaves the room.
I hold Mikayla's hand. "Hey, sis. It's Josh. I was one of the doctors who stopped your internal bleeding. Why didn't you tell anyone how badly hurt you were in the car accident? If told someone, they would have come across this earlier."
I watch my sister closely, and she opens her eyes. "Josh?"
I smile. "Sis, how are you feeling?"
She looks around the room, and her eyes land on me. "Josh?"
I nod.
"You're a doctor?"
"Yes, I was one of the doctors in the operating room with you."
She looks at the tubes connected to her. "What happened?"
I hold her hand. "You had internal bleeding." I point to the bag of blood on the stand. "You need a transfusion with the amount of blood you lost, and there's an IV hooked up to you as well."
"Doctor Charleston went to the waiting room to tell Logan, Robbie, Brent and Kye. Your Grandmother and Landon are still."
"I want to see Landon."
Doctor Charleston enters the room with Logan.
Logan moves over to her and hugs her. "Hey, sis. Landon called us and told us what happened. He also called Mum and Dad, but they are in Europe filming a movie."
Mikayla looks at me. "Can you get Landon?"
Logan looks at me. "I'll get him." He leaves the room.
I check the tubes on her before I walk out the door.
Nurse Lana moves away from the desk. "Do you need me to do anything with the girl?"
I shake my head. "I'll look after her myself."
