Gabriella Santiago

"A ship is safe in harbor, but that's not what ships are for."

-
I was pulled out of my light dreams by a slight shake. I opened my eyes to see the boy who laid beside me through the night staring at me.

"Oh good, you're finally awake. The sunrise just started," Matt said slowly moving his attention toward the colors of the sky.

"Thanks for waking me, I wouldn't want to have missed this," I responded with a faint smile.

"It's our tradition, remember? I wouldn't want you to miss it for the world."

I brought myself into a seating position as I rested my head on Matt's shoulder. The both of us were staring out into the beautiful colors of the early morning. I broke the comfortable silence that surrounded us.

"It marvels me to see that Mother Nature can make something so beautiful to start off the day, " I stated without taking my eyes off the sky.

"It's definitely not as beautiful as you, Gaby," Matt mumbled softly. I ignored it, not wanting to stir up any emotions. Matt turned his head towards me, looking into my eyes.

"Gaby, have you ever wanted something really bad but you were too scared to ask for it? So instead you decided to go in a different direction, ask for something else, that way you know you would get it for sure?" He told me as his eyes watered. I nodded.

"Well, I really like this person, scratch that I'm in love with them and I'm afraid that if I told them my true feelings, I'll loose them. I tried so hard to deny my feelings so I dated someone else hoping to feel the same way about my new girlfriend then the other person. It didn't work and now everything is a mess," Matt was pouring his heart out leaving us both in tears. I gave him a hug as the tears continued streaming down my face and his.

"I want you to promise me something, if you love someone tell them, even if your scared that it's not the right thing. You say it and you say it loud."

"I love you."

"Wait what."

"That must of not been loud enough, hold on," He told me as he stood up. He cupped his hands over his mouth ready for everyone outside to hear what he was about to say.

"I'M MADLY IN LOVE WITH YOU, GABRIELLA SANTIAGO!!!"

He sat back down next to me, further explaining his love for me. It was bringing me to tears.

"The girl I was talking about was you. Well obviously since I just shouted your name across the city," he said chuckling.

"Anyway, I've had this feeling ever since sophomore year. We had been friends for 8 years then and the feeling I got when I was around you changed. Every time I was near you, butterflies filled my stomach. I wanted to tell you but I feared that you didn't feel the same way. I met Regina and started dating her to get my mind off of you but obviously that didn't work."

"Please tell me you feel the same way or I would have risked everything for nothing," he told me gently taking my hand in his.

"Of course I feel the same way, Matthew."

"Well then, Princess if we're going to do this you gotta know that I want all the strings attached."
