Chapter One Part I
July 14th, 2005
Darkness bled through the night, concealing anyone that may be moving around in the stillness. It was the darkest of nights but it did not bother Amos at all.
A deadly punch that would have killed him came his way but he swiftly transported a few feet away to safety before striking the wooden stake towards the beast in front of him but it had dodged. Amos knew the vampire was much faster than him but he had his keen wolf senses to keep him one step ahead of the vampire.
The vampire sped behind Amos but Amos already knew its movement before it had moved there. It was the best vulnerable and the open spot but Amos had been waiting. He quickly struck the stake again behind him this time, making sure it would land in the heart but the vampire moved at the last second and instead had struck its right chest.
The beast yelled out in agony and stumbled back. It tried to throw the wooden stake off its chest but Amos swiftly straddled the vampire and held him in its place as it thrashed around. Amos had to give the beast some credit of its massive strength to push him off but Amos put all his power into keeping the stake inside its chest.
He knew he had to think fast or else he would lose the fight because a vampire was still technically stronger than a wolf. In strength only, not intellectually, Amos defended. He was an intelligent man of twenty and he hated anyone who ever looked down on him. His online college diploma testified his intelligence for a twenty year old.
Amos had left his home and pack after he had graduated at eighteen and left to train to become an Elder. There were five Elders who were known for being the strongest, most brilliant werewolves whose jobs were the protector of all werewolves in the United States.
After his training program ended, he went on countless missions at the same time he was trying to finish college through the internet. Most werewolves did not get to finish college but he knew education and intelligence was something that was important to him. It made him who he was and he liked to train his brain. It was times like college that helped him analyze his moves when working in the field.
First, Amos knew by logic that if he let go, the vampire would take out the stake and stand up as soon as possible. Second, by biology and human anatomy, he knew it would give him a good three seconds before the vampire could use its speed. Third, by physics, he knew he could grab the other stake across the room and fling it towards the vampire in two seconds. Fourth, by mathematics, it would leave him one second to spare and a better chance of no error.
Quickly, Amos let go of the thrashing vampire and transported across the room for his extra wooden stake at the same time the vampire had taken one stake out and began to stand. Amos' hands wrapped around the smooth wooden stake especially made for vampires and issued by the Elders and with a quick, effortless motion, he flung the stake expertly, cutting the air and hitting point blank on the vampire's heart.
There was a sickening crack as the wooden stake pierced through the vampire's rib cage and through the heart. Amos wiped the sweat across his forehead and tried to blow his long curly brown locks out of his face. He had not been able to visit home and Elder work had made him forget about unnecessary things like cutting hair.
Amos slowly approached the vampire but as he came closer, he saw the vampire had already begun to decompose. He groan inwardly as he knew he had to clean up the scene and bury him in the woods. Without another second, Amos took the dead body of the vampire and lugged it to the woods half a mile away. No one would see them as he traveled through the dark, letting the darkness act as his shield and blanket as his figure sped across the night to distinguish any trace of evidence of a killed vampire.
