This gives a little more detail of both Derek's and Amos' past lives. I loved writing this chapter! I hope I can go even deeper for Derek's story. He has gone through SO much that his story needs to be told and hopefully his journey can even be written down in this supposed to be short book.

ENJOY!

Chapter One Part II

"What does their base look like?" Amos asked. They were already thirty thousand feet in the air on one of Derek's private jet planes and would arrive in California a little before dawn.

"It's in the middle of the woods underneath an abandoned shack," Derek said nonchalantly as he took his pawn and moved it two spaces forward. Having no desire to sleep, they had begun a round of chess. They both loved to see if they could trick each other. Usually the game didn't end for many hours as their intelligence was an even match, but it was a game to pass the time.

"That's so cliché," Amos chuckled as he thought of his next move

"Nothing we can't handle," Derek agreed, waiting for his friend to make his move. Derek had already formulated the next ten moves that would give him an easy victory. All he had to do was keep Amos busy.

"What's the plan when we arrive?" Amos asked, finally moving his knight sideways to kill Derek's castle.

"I'll quickly scope the place because it's broad daylight and your scent would alert them," Derek said. He looked thoughtful for a second and moved his bishop to kill Amos' knight. "You're getting too far ahead of yourself Amos. That was an elementary move."

"Perhaps," Amos mused, "or perhaps I have more up my sleeve."

"Now Amos I know you want to dream about winning, but let us get back on track," Derek said and Amos finally made his move. "While I'm scoping the place, I want you to stay by in the nearest town until you get my signal," Derek said as he took his turn, sliding his bishop back to protect the king.

"And the signal?"

"You won't miss it," Derek said, waiting for Amos to make his move.

"Just don't get too creative," Amos said, making his move and then smirking at his friend. The rest of the flight was in comfortable silence except the movement of their chess pieces.

By dawn, Amos and Derek had split their ways, Derek going into the forest and Amos staying at a rundown motel not too close that they would pick up his scent but not too far so he could come at Derek's call.

"Be safe," Amos said all joking put aside now. Amos wasn't sure about this mission. He had gone to several missions with Derek, without the approval of the Elders of course, but it was never something this big. If anyone knew the way to make humans into werewolves that could easily turn the society upside down. There would be no hierarchy and no social order. Although it wasn't social order like that with the vampires, all of them knew of Derek's name and his power so no one even dared to defile him; even the worst of the lot made sure they steered out of his way.

"Don't worry too much about me, mate. I got this," Derek grinned with full pointed teeth before disappearing into the shadows.

Amos watched the blur of his friend before checking into the motel and putting his duffle bag on the hard, squeaky mattress. He wished he could go after his crime fighting comrade but he knew what the dangers were if he tried to sneak in. It would ruin the whole operation.

So instead of going after Derek, Amos decided to take a shower. He was only able to wash off the blood from his previous encounter and put on a sweater but he felt that the grime and blood of the vampire still stained under the clothing. He took off his beaten down sweater which revealed a perfectly ruined bloodied collared shirt. Amos groaned, hating good clothing spoiled. He liked to dress nicely and was often seen in formal wear of a collar button down shirt and long no-pocket cargo jeans.
