Chapter Two:
I woke up this morning and Matthew was gone, as always. It didn't surprise me he's always gone and he never cares about anybody else or what they need from him. I groaned and rolled out of bed to get the girls ready for school. I step out my room and heard voices from downstairs. They sounded like the girls, I walked down the steps and went towards the sounds to find Avery and Lyla eating breakfast and McKenzie playing on the floor with her dolls. "Why are you guys up?" I asked as I walked over to the fridge and poured myself orange juice. "Dad woke us up." Avery said. I raised my eyebrow, why would he wake the girls up so early and then just leave. "Okay but you guys don't have to leave for another hour." Lyla shrugged and brought her bowl to the sink.
Avery stood up and handed me a note, "Dad told me to give this to you." I grabbed it slowly and started to open it. All the girls went into the living room as I did so. The note wasn't too long and it was in his sloppy handwriting:
Elizabeth, I can't stress this enough when I say that we need to file the divorce already, me living here stresses me out. By the way, I want custody of McKenzie since she's the youngest and I want to actually raise my child without your input. I already called the lawyer and everything, all you have to is sign the papers. Don't make this harder than it needs to be like you always do. By the way I packed up and moved out, I also took all the money out of our accounts so good luck paying for all the bills. Maybe next time you'll realize what you had was good. I'll be coming back to pick up McKenzie. It was a nice being with you for the time being. -Matthew
"Girls...." I said. They stopped what they were doing to look at me, "What ?" they asked. I put down that pathetic note and told them to go and pack their things. McKenzie sighed,"What's wrong mommy?" A tear glided down my cheek, "Nothing." I replied," We just have to get out of town for a while." Avery gave me a questionable look, "Why? What about my friends?" I gave her a mini glare, "Can you all just please hurry and pack." They all nodded and did I as I said. It only took us a few minutes to pack our clothes and such. "GIRLS COME ON" I screamed walking down the stairs, they all came dragging their luggage behind them. I rushed into the garage and found a post it note in the middle of the garage floor. "Oh lord.." I said with anger. I dropped my bag and picked up the note:
Nice try, I figured you would try and leave so I sold your car and kept the money.
"REALLY!?" I crumpled up the note. "Mom what happened?" asked Avery. I ignored the question telling them to stay there while I went upstairs to check the hiding place I keep extra money. I threw everything on the floor to get to our wedding picture where I had $300. Of course when I got there, I saw yet another post it note:
Elizabeth you really can't win this. I'll be back @ 3 to get McKenzie.
I had enough of this but luckily I had more than one money spot, our family is quite a wealthy one. I ran into my closet and grabbed my least favorite pair of heels and broke off the actual heel part spilling out $100. I hurried and grabbed it along with the house keys so he couldn't get in but I'm pretty sure he kept his pair anyways. I ran out and grabbed the girls. I sprinted across the street to Mrs. Robinson's house, one of my dearest friends. I pounded onto the door and she opened seconds later in her robe and slippers. "Elizabeth what are you doing here?" I explained everything and begged her if I could stay there until I could figure everything out. "Of course." She rushed all us in the door and gave us breakfast. "Where are you going to go?" she asked woriedly. "I have no idea.." She went into her bedroom and came back with the information of a close friend of hers. "This is Bryan my best friend, he has a house far from here that he lets homeless or helpless people stay in until they're on theyre feet. Don't think its full of creepers it's not so the girls will be safe there." I nodded and took the information before giving her a loving hug. "Thank you so much Nancy." She nodded as I rushed out through the door and went to my nearest bus stop.
"Mom I don't like this." Lyla said as we all stood in front of the man's house several hours later. "We don't have a choice girls." They huffed and we went into what they called the lobby. "Hello ma'am! How can I help you?" a weird man said to me. "I just need a room that can fit us all." I proclaimed. He nodded and typed into his computer. "Room 809 third floor." He handed me the key. "That's a lot of stairs." Avery complained. "AVERY JUST BE QUIET AND DO AS I SAY!" I shouted. She pulled back and stopped talking. I picked up McKenzie and we all went to our room. I opened the door to find a nice room and it was actually quite roomy and fit us all. "Okay girls out your stuff in the corner and get in your pajamas." They nodded and left. I plopped onto the bed exhausted. I ordered food and we all ate dinner.
"Alright time for bed." Avery tilted her head, "It's only 7.." I glared at her angrily, she sunk down and went to her bed. I tucked everyone of them in and said goodnight. They all looked depressed and tired, they had bags under their eyes from all the walking from the bus stop which was way far from the house. I got changed into my pajamas and went to bed, we had a lot of things to acomplish tomorrow.
