The man in front of me spun around and stared just over my shoulder at something behind me. A look of what can only be described as pure terror had taken over the peaceful features i had witnessed only a little while ago.
He was here alone as well getting tickets to the concert for him and his girlfriend to see My Bloody Valentine who was playing at the small venue coliseum on Valentines Day. I didnt really talk to him much, just small talk. Our plans for Valentines Day and such.
Lilo and I would go see the concert (not that we were all that enthused to see the show, we would rather be seeing Bullet For My Valentine). The plan afterwards was to grab something quick to eat, then go back to my place and watch the movie of the same name as the band. Both of them, the classic one from the 80's and the 2009 remake. We tried to incorporate a little of the macabre into all of the holidays. There is pretty much a horror movie for every holiday. Yeah, Lilo and I were just weird like that.
I started to ask the man if he was okay, but as his eyes grew wider and his mouth became more of a well defined capital O, I knew he wasnt. And that very moment I felt it. It was behind me. I havent felt it in many, many years. It was more than just behind me though, it surrounded me, encompassed me, it felt that it would consume every fiber of my very being. My mind, my body and even my soul, felt as though they were all being suffocated by what I can only call the Presence.
He was back.
It was back.
The Presence was back.
I had to shut my eyes as I was seeing little shooting stars dart across my vision, i reached out to put my hand against the wall as I felt all the blood rush to my head. As soon as my hand found the wall, I heard a scream of pure terror cut through the noise of all the chatter of the people around me. I didnt even have to look to know that something horrible had happened.
I opened my eyes, and as I did the dizziness I felt was passing and the ominous feel of the Presence was slowly dissipating. He was gone. Also, the man in front of me was gone, and people were now running and screaming and pushing there way out of line, and to find safety somewhere in the streets. I knew it was over though. What ever had happened was all that would happen for now.
With this in mind, I turned around and looked to see what might have happened here in middle of a busy downtown district in middle of the day. I have never felt the Presence in the day time, and from what I knew he only acted out at night time.
What I saw when I looked through the crowd of people surrounding her, didnt shock me at all. It was Clarissa, and she was definately dead. I could see that a huge chunk of her neck had been ripped open and that blood still slowly flowed from the wound. But, surprisingly there wasnt a puddle of blood beneath her to match the wound. And the fact that she was as pale as a ghost told me right away that she had been drained of almost all the blood within her.
I heard someone saying over and over again that she was dead. Just then I heard sirens in the distance. I had not known Clarissa for very long, but the fact that I knew her by association put those I loved or cared about, or even associated with apparantly, in harms way.
And once again, the Presence that I had thought was gone forever had returned.
Of this I had no doubt.
And I was scared.
A/N:: Yeah, this is really short, I know. It might be that it turns out to be just a short story. Its based on a made up myth of mine that I was originally going to turn into a comic book some years back. The Idea has always stayed in my mind though and I hope to try to bring the story and characters alive again. I hope that once I get into the depths of the characters minds again I wont want to stop writing. We will see ;)
